Position SummaryThe
Production Manager leads extrusion operations within a designated area of the manufacturing plant and is responsible for ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality production. This role works closely with or directly oversees key operational functions including Operations, Production Control, Maintenance, Human Resources, Shipping, and Receiving.
As a member of the plant leadership team, the Production Manager drives a
zero-waste manufacturing culture, focused on continuous improvement and sustainable performance across
SQDC (Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost) metrics. This position operates within a
24/7 continuous manufacturing environment and collaborates effectively within a
union workforce.
What To Expect- Lead the extrusion and manufacturing operations of a high-volume, complex production facility, with direct and indirect management responsibility for hourly employees and Production Supervisors.
- Drive Lean transformation across assigned manufacturing operations by providing clear guidance, accountability, and leadership to supervisory and production teams.
- Standardize extrusion processes (e.g., color changes, changeovers) to consistently meet or exceed quality and efficiency expectations.
- Optimize talent, processes, and equipment utilization to improve productivity, reduce costs, and enhance operational performance.
- Lead problem-solving initiatives across extrusion operations, including root cause analysis and implementation of sustainable countermeasures.
- Recruit, develop, and retain top talent while building a strong succession pipeline for critical roles within the team and facility.
- Partner with Local Union leadership to maintain productive labor relations and ensure safe, efficient plant operations.
What We're Looking For- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline preferred, ideally with experience in PVC or plastics extrusion; equivalent industry experience will be considered.
- Demonstrated career progression with the capability to successfully assume increasing levels of responsibility.
- Proven leadership experience including effective hiring practices, performance management, and employee development.
- Strong track record of working collaboratively with technical staff, management, and hourly manufacturing employees.
- Experience with Lean Manufacturing, continuous improvement, and Kaizen problem-solving methodologies, with a strong commitment to operational excellence.
