Responsibilities

  • Oversee work assignments according to production objectives.
  • Set and achieve production goals in safety, quality, and efficiency.
  • Initiate personnel actions like appraisals and promotions in line with company guidelines.
  • Lead process improvement initiatives, implementing lean practices and waste reduction strategies.

Full Job Description
Requisition Summary

The Production Manager is responsible for leading a safe work environment, establishing, monitoring, and improving performance to plant/department goals, and coordinating activities around new product implementations. The Production Manager is expected to manage multiple metrics, prepare and present operating plans and implement and drive PACCAR Production System initiatives.

Job Functions/Responsibilities

  • Primary job function is leading production activities, first line managers, Production Leads and production personnel.
  • Coordinates activities for ensuring new products are supported by Production and fully integrated into production processes.
  • Supports the training, motivation and safety of High Performance Work Team members and representatives.
  • Oversees the distribution of work assignments to team members/representatives in accordance with the production objectives.
  • Responsible for setting and meeting production goals, including safety, quality, delivery reliability, scrap, labor efficiency, and housekeeping.
  • Initiates personnel actions including performance appraisals, promotions, transfers, disciplinary measures, etc., in accordance with Kenworth guidelines and procedures.
  • Leads process improvement efforts such as: Paccar Production System which includes lean leadership, 5S, effective root cause and corrective action for repetitive issues, quality improvement initiatives, auditing, and waste reduction.
  • Serves as a coach and mentor in the personal and professional development of team members.
  • Responsible for departmental budgeting and meeting financial obligations.
  • Recommends and assists in capital expenditure process for improvements as needed.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Manufacturing, Engineering, Operations, Materials Management or related field required. Graduate degree in related field, highly desired.
  • 8 years of relevant experience required inclusive of 5+ years of operations experience in a manufacturing environment and 3+ years of production leadership expereince.
  • Working knowledge of assembly operations, continuous improvement tools and methodologies, and teambuilding skills.
  • Possess problem solving skills with the ability to function equally well as a team leader.
  • Demonstrated leadership and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to operate and actively participate in a team-oriented environment.
  • Ability to initiate and lead change through continuous process improvements.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience in the application of lean leadership principles
  • Working knowledge of PACCAR/Kenworth personnel procedures and labor agreements (union) desirable.
  • Trained as a Six Sigma Green Belt or equivalent a plus.
