Glass Manager

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:

The Glass Manager will report to the Plant Manager. They will be a key member of the Manufacturing Plant Operations Team.

They will have close working relationships with the Plant Superintendent, Supply Chain Manager, Maintenance Manager, Manufacturing Engineers, Quality Manager, HR Manager, EHS Manager and other key Supervisors and support (HR, Finance, etc.) staff.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The Glass Manager is to safely build the required quality product efficiently and on time with an eye to minimizing waste and overall cost.
  • They will develop an environment of success where people willingly bring their best every day.
  • They will drive consistent process deployment within their manufacturing area while working to achieve site KPI metrics.
  • They will share and learn from best practices within the site and the larger Mfg Operations team.
  • Supervises the activities of their team. Reviews and troubleshoots process and equipment problems with Operators, Maintenance and EHS if needed.
  • Addresses employee concerns and hold the team to a high standard. Coaches and implements corrective action by working with site leadership / HR in a timely manner.
  • Maintains and enforces housekeeping and safety procedures, including site-specific Emergency Response programs. Participates in safety audits and inspections.
  • Uses Lean methodologies including visual management and root cause tools to effectively solve problems
  • Provide training and leadership to the department members. Participate in and/or closely monitor the on-the-job training of new or newly assigned employees. In conjunction with the Manufacturing Plant Manager develop training plans for all employees and communicate them to each employee at least annually. Report on progress as requested.
  • Assist in creation of career progression system within the line and site with the goal of cross training to improve both the employee experience and the end product.
  • Maintain an accident-free workplace while complying with OSHA standards.
  • Perform other activities as assigned.


More specifically, the Glass Manager will:
  • Passionately implement a lean operating system mentality and culture in a highly structured and prescriptive way leading the development and implementation of the roadmap to achieve breakthrough operating performance (5S, SMED, TPS, etc.)
  • Continually evolve manufacturing efficiency and assess opportunities to improve safety, quality while reducing cost.
  • Meet and exceed assigned KPI metrics and regularly reviews performance with the team
  • Be visible, approachable and a role model leader for your team and within the site.
  • Improve product quality, lead time, turnover, safety, and performance.
  • Communicate effectively both with the team, site and the larger Mfg Operations team.


CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS:

  • A Bachelor in engineering/ management or a minimum of 10 years' experience as a working supervisor, team lead or manager from a process oriented, fast paced, complex manufacturing environment is required.
  • Previous work experience with a well-regarded company renowned for its manufacturing excellence
  • Demonstrated understanding of lean manufacturing skills in operations including excellent communication, problem-solving, analytical and math skills.
  • Excellent leadership skills -- possesses well developed skills at setting a compelling vision, developing a performance oriented, aspirational work environment, and coaching/developing the organization.
