Job Description:

POSITION SUMMARY: Simco-Ion Technology is seeking a Systems Engineer to support product development and sustaining engineering across the full product lifecycle-from concept through production and post-release support within the Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) industry. This role focuses on system-level design, testing, troubleshooting, and cross-functional coordination to ensure product performance, manufacturability, and reliability.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Systems Engineering & Product Support
  • Provide end-to-end engineering support for released products, ensuring system performance, reliability, and stability across field and manufacturing environments
  • Investigate and resolve system-level issues spanning hardware and firmware, driving root cause analysis and corrective actions
  • Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, quality, and suppliers to address technical challenges and ensure production readiness
  • Support component sourcing and qualification through technical guidance with suppliers and purchasing teams


Failure Analysis & Continuous Improvement
  • Lead failure analysis activities, including RMA evaluation, field data analysis, and trend identification
  • Drive corrective and preventive actions to address systemic issues and improve product reliability and serviceability
  • Prioritize and execute improvements based on customer impact and business needs
  • Support ISO and quality system requirements through proper documentation and testing practices.
  • Identify opportunities for design, reliability, cost, or process improvements.
  • Maintain working knowledge of ESD standards, materials, and applicable regulations.
Testing & Validation
  • Plan, execute, and document functional, system-level, and validation testing for prototypes and released products
  • Develop test procedures and analyze results to support design verification and issue resolution
  • Debug system-level failures using standard lab equipment and correlate behavior across subsystems.
Manufacturing & Production Support
  • Support production ramp and ongoing manufacturing operations by resolving technical issues and improving yield
  • Coordinate engineering release activities and maintain accurate documentation and configuration control
  • Address production and customer-impacting issues in collaboration with cross-functional teams
Hardware Lifecycle & System Enhancements
  • Manage hardware lifecycle activities, including obsolescence mitigation, redesign, and validation of updated components and PCBs
  • Ensure system integration, signal integrity, power distribution, and manufacturability requirements are met
  • Contribute to system requirements definition, interface design, and performance criteria
Firmware & Software Development
  • Design, develop, and maintain embedded firmware and supporting software for product features and system updates
  • Develop drivers, hardware abstraction layers, and communication interfaces (e.g., I2C, SPI, UART)
  • Support hardware revisions through firmware updates, bring-up, and validation on new platforms
  • Develop and execute unit, integration, and system-level tests; optimize performance, memory, and power usage
  • Contribute to code quality, architecture decisions, and continuous improvement of development tools and processes


POSITION QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical, or related Engineering discipline
  • 3+ years of experience in product development, systems engineering, or sustaining engineering roles
  • Hands-on experience with prototyping, testing, and engineering release activities.
  • Familiarity with system-level troubleshooting and root cause analysis.
  • Working knowledge of ECO/ECR processes and manufacturing handoff.
  • Exposure to RMA analysis and sustaining engineering
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products and common engineering tools (CAD, AutoCAD, SolidWorks etc.).
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced development environment.
  • Proficient with standard Bench test equipment, i.e. Oscilloscope, DMM,
Preferred:
  • Master's degree is preferred in Electrical related Engineering discipline.
  • Knowledge of ESD standards and electronics manufacturing is strongly preferred.

1. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is constantly required to talk, hear, twist/turn, reach outward, handle/manipulate and grasp objects, stand, walk, and bend. Employees will frequently reach above shoulders and occasionally climb or squat.

2. The employee must carry up to 25 pounds constantly and up to 50 pounds occasionally and push and pull up to 10 pounds constantly and up to 50 pounds occasionally.

3. Specific vision abilities required by this job include concentrated attention, close vision, far vision, depth perception, color vision, and the ability to bring objects into sharp focus.

Working Conditions: Working conditions commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job.

1. 50% typical office environment, 50% engineering lab.

2. Occasional overnight domestic or international travel (5% or less)

Compensation Information:

The expected starting salary range for this position is $110,000 to $140,000 annually. Compensation within this range will be determined based on several factors, including but not limited to the candidate's relevant experience, skills, qualifications, education, and certifications. In addition to base salary, eligible employees may have access to company-sponsored benefits, including health, dental, vision, 401k, vacation, and holiday pay.
