Full Job Description
Product Manager

Position Summary

The Product Manager plays a key role in defining and delivering product strategy and execution across Industrial Scientific's portfolio of integrated safety solutions, including hardware, embedded firmware, software, and related services. The successful candidate thrives in a global, cross-functional environment and partners closely with engineering (hardware and software), design, product marketing, sales, operations, and regional teams to translate customer needs and workflows into clear, end-to-end product direction and delivered outcomes.

This role owns product discovery through delivery for integrated solutions-identifying opportunities, defining system-level requirements, prioritizing work across domains, and ensuring solutions are delivered with quality and measurable customer impact. The ideal candidate is comfortable operating across both whitespace (new workflows and emerging opportunities) and sustainment (quality, lifecycle, and reliability improvements), and can clearly communicate tradeoffs and decisions to stakeholders at all levels.

Key Responsibilities

Product Strategy & Roadmap
  • Develop and maintain product strategy and roadmaps for integrated solutions that drive growth, improve customer outcomes, and strengthen competitive position across the portfolio.
  • Identify product gaps and new opportunities through market analysis, customer insight, system performance data, and lifecycle considerations.
  • Define outcome-based success metrics across adoption, usability, and business performance; use data to guide product decisions and tradeoffs across domains.
  • Drive alignment around customer value, ensuring priorities are not siloed by hardware vs. software boundaries.

Customer & Market Insight
  • Lead voice-of-customer activities, workflow observation, and market research to understand user needs, operational environments, pain points, and buying drivers across the full product lifecycle.
  • Translate insights into system-level requirements that account for physical device constraints, digital experiences, connectivity, and service touchpoints.
  • Conduct competitive assessments across devices, connected ecosystems, and software offerings; translate insights into differentiated product direction.
  • Engage directly with customers, distributors, and internal stakeholders to validate problems, solution approaches, and tradeoffs; travel to customer sites as needed (~25%).

Product Execution (Agile / Delivery Partnership)
  • Gather, prioritize, and refine requirements for integrated hardware, firmware, software, and cloud-enabled capabilities.
  • Own backlog prioritization and work closely with engineering teams across disciplines to plan and deliver coordinated releases on a regular cadence.
  • Review sprint and milestone deliverables, validate acceptance criteria, and partner with teams to ensure high-quality, reliable releases that function as a cohesive system.
  • Balance new capabilities, usability improvements, cost, manufacturability, security, and sustainment needs based on customer and business impact.

Cross-Functional Leadership & Go-To-Market Support
  • Partner with product marketing and commercial teams to define value propositions, positioning, and launch readiness for integrated solutions.
  • Support strategic sales opportunities and contribute technical/functional inputs for RFIs and RFPs involving integrated products and systems.
  • Act as a product champion-clearly communicating system-level strategy, decisions, dependencies, and progress to stakeholders at all levels.

Domain Credibility (Safety / Gas Detection Technology)
  • Build credibility with internal and external stakeholders through understanding of key gas detection technologies, customer workflows, and the real-world constraints of deploying integrated solutions (e.g., device + connectivity + cloud experience).

Preferred Qualifications
  • 4+ years of experience in product management or related technical leadership roles, preferably involving integrated hardware-software products.
  • Demonstrated ability to partner with hardware, firmware, and software engineering teams and lead cross-functional delivery.
  • Experience with Agile product development, backlog management, and hybrid hardware-software development models.
  • Strong systems-thinking capability, with comfort managing tradeoffs across devices, connectivity, software, and services.
  • Strong analytical skills and comfort working with product, customer, operational, and business performance data.
  • Experience in B2B environments with complex, safety-critical, or connected products and global stakeholders.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills; ability to influence without authority.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally (approximately 25%).
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, business, or a related field, or equivalent experience.

Bonus or Equity
This position is also eligible for bonus as part of the total compensation package.
