Full Job Description
About the Role

Float is building the future of Canadian financial services - scaling a credit business powered by modern, innovative underwriting and monitoring infrastructure that will unlock new digital-first credit and financial products for Canadian businesses. Fraud detection, AML compliance, payments operations, and dispute resolution already run on this decisioning backbone today. What's missing is a single owner.

As the founding Product Manager for Credit & Risk Engineering, you'll turn this shared decisioning and monitoring layer into a truly owned product: fast, accurate, and relentlessly efficient as volume scales. You'll sit at the intersection of Float's credit roadmap and growth funnel, sequencing a small engineering team across real infrastructure debt and a flagship new build - the FlexLine decisioning engine - while ensuring the systems you own keep Float's day-to-day risk operations safe and scalable.

What You'll Do
  • Own the roadmap and sequencing for the Credit & Risk Engineering squad across three domains - starting with the trade-off between paying down risk infrastructure debt and building the FlexLine decisioning engine.
  • Own the decisioning and automation systems that drive KYB/KYC approval speed and accuracy, delivered so Float's risk operations team can hit its approval-time targets.
  • Own the tooling behind fraud detection, AML compliance, payments operations, and dispute resolution - daily infrastructure the company already depends on.
  • Own risk decision operating cost per account as your team's primary efficiency metric, proving the systems scale without proportional headcount growth.
  • Own the in-app credit experiences - applying for credit, viewing balances and limits, setting up repayments - and their target speed, in support of Float's credit product roadmap.
  • Be the standing source of truth on where the credit product roadmap ends and credit-engineering scope begins, in ongoing partnership with the GM of Credit.

About You
Here's what sets you up for success at Float:
  • You Put Customers First, Always. You care deeply about delivering meaningful value. Whether you're building internal systems or customer-facing features, you're always thinking about how to make life better for our users.
  • You Act Like an Owner. You take responsibility for outcomes, step up to challenges, and seek solutions proactively-doing what's best for the business, not just your role.
  • You Think Big and Move Fast. You're energized by building from 0 to 1. You're not afraid to challenge the status quo, experiment quickly, and learn as you go.
  • You Constantly Learn and Grow. You're hungry to improve your craft and open to feedback. You bring a growth mindset to everything you do.
  • You Raise the Bar. You care about doing things well and efficiently. You balance speed with rigor and always look for ways to improve how we work.
  • You Win as a Team. You're a generous collaborator who values communication, context, and shared wins. You lift others up and help make the team stronger.

What You'll Bring:
  • 5+ years of product management experience, with meaningful time personally owning a credit underwriting or risk-decisioning outcome - not just supporting one.
  • A track record building and owning infrastructure or internal-tooling products where another team, not an end customer, is who you're building for.
  • Real comfort operating inside compliance-heavy domains - KYB/KYC, transaction monitoring, fraud, AML, payments operations, or disputes.
  • An automation-first instinct: your default question is how a decision becomes automatic, not what the screen looks like.
  • Experience sequencing a roadmap under real capacity constraints, including saying no to work that looked mandatory.
  • Comfort negotiating and holding scope boundaries with senior, opinionated stakeholders you don't manage.

This May Not Be the Role for You If:
  • You want to spend most of your time on customer-facing product experiences - this role is almost entirely about the systems behind them.
  • You're energized by visible launches and find debt-paydown or "keep the lights on" work unrewarding - the first phase here is deliberately about stabilizing existing systems before new build.
  • You want one clear manager and one roadmap - this seat drives outcomes for three separate leaders (credit, growth, and risk operations) who each own a piece of the result.

Flexible Work Model

Float is Toronto-based with a hybrid model: in-office collaboration days, plus occasional in-person time for workflow-discovery sessions. Remote candidates within Canada considered, with occasional travel to Toronto.

Why You Should Join
  • Work at one of Canada's fastest-growing fintech companies
  • Make a real impact in a high-autonomy, high-growth role
  • Collaborate with an ambitious and supportive team
  • Competitive compensation, equity options, and benefits
  • Hybrid work model - we are based in Toronto with in-office days for connection and collaboration
  • Enjoy catered team lunches every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday
  • Bring your pup to our dog-friendly office
  • Thrive in a high-trust, high-performance culture where your work truly matters

In Short

At Float, you'll thrive if you're bold, curious, and eager to make a real impact. We're building something special-and having a lot of fun along the way. If you're excited to build, grow, and win together, we'd love to meet you.
