About the Role

The Customer Order Engineer (Electrical Product Engineer) plays a vital role in the design and development of custom electrical products tailored to the customers' specific needs. This role will work closely with the sales, engineering, and production teams to create detailed electrical designs, generate accurate quotes and Bills of Materials (BOMs), and provide technical support throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities
  • Electrical Design:
  • Work closely with the sales team and customers to understand their unique requirements and specifications.
  • Develop detailed electrical designs, including schematics, layouts, and component selection, to meet project objectives.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, codes, and safety regulations.
  • Collaborate with the engineering team to integrate electrical designs seamlessly into overall product designs.
  • Quotation and Costing:
  • Create accurate and competitive quotes for custom-engineered electrical products, taking into account material costs, labor, overhead, and other relevant expenses.
  • Collaborate with procurement and suppliers to obtain pricing for electrical components.
  • Review and refine quotes to optimize cost-effectiveness while meeting customer expectations.
  • Calculate labor and manufacturing costs.
  • Consider project timelines and potential risks when creating quotes.
  • Bills of Materials (BOMs):
  • Generate detailed and costed Bills of Materials (BOMs) for electrical products, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Maintain BOMs in the company's ERP system, including part creation, updates, and revisions.
  • Work closely with the production team to resolve any BOM-related issues and discrepancies.
  • Technical Support:
  • Serve as a technical point of contact for customers, addressing inquiries and providing technical expertise throughout project development.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot and resolve electrical design issues during production.
  • Documentation and Record Keeping:
  • Maintain thorough documentation of electrical designs, quotes, BOMs, and related project data.
  • Ensure that all documentation is organized, accessible, and up to date.
  • Quality Assurance:
  • Conduct quality checks on electrical designs to ensure accuracy and reliability.
  • Participate in design reviews to identify and address potential issues early in the process.
  • Continuous Improvement:
  • Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in electrical engineering.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy in electrical design and quoting.


Required Qualifications

Education and specialized knowledge, skill, or experience (e.g., technical, scientific, administrative, managerial), which this position requires.
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a related field.
  • Proven experience in electrical design for custom-engineered products.
  • Proficiency in CAD software for electrical design (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks Electrical).
  • Familiarity with ERP systems for part creation and BOM management.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical components, circuits, and systems.
  • Excellent communication and capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge and experience with electrical power distribution products and systems (switchgear, electric distribution panels, circuit breakers)
  • Proven experience in quoting for custom-engineered products.
  • Advanced degree or relevant certifications are a plus.
  • Familiarity with relevant industry standards and regulations.

Physical/Environmental Demands
  • Ability to work in an office and manufacturing environment, including occasional visits to the production floor for product testing and validation.
