The Product Engineer, R&D and Innovation leads the technical delivery of digital products and data-enabled solutions supporting scientific and product-development work.
Working closely with R&D, Innovation, Product Development, Data, Architecture, Security, Privacy, AI, and external partners, this role translates business and scientific needs into scalable, secure, and sustainable solutions. The Product Engineer provides hands-on technical leadership from discovery and design through development, integration, testing, deployment, support, and continuous improvement.
This role will help teams accelerate innovation while improving data accessibility, traceability, knowledge reuse, and decision-making.
What you'll be doing.- Partner with R&D and Innovation stakeholders to understand business processes, scientific workflows, data needs, and pain points, then translate them into clear product and technical requirements.
- Lead end-to-end engineering delivery, from solution discovery and architecture through configuration or development, integration, testing, release, support, and continuous improvement.
- Design and build scalable, reusable, secure, and maintainable solutions that connect R&D applications, enterprise platforms, data sources, and analytics capabilities.
- Work with product owners and business partners to prioritize the backlog, define acceptance criteria, manage technical dependencies, and deliver measurable business outcomes.
- Collaborate with Enterprise Architecture, Data, Security, Privacy, Infrastructure, and AI teams to align solutions with organizational standards and approved technology patterns.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend practical opportunities to simplify R&D workflows, improve knowledge reuse, accelerate experimentation, and strengthen innovation decision-making.
- Identify and explore responsible AI use cases for R&D and Innovation, including knowledge discovery, workflow assistance, analytics, and decision support.
- Establish standards for documentation, testing, monitoring, performance, reliability, and supportability across product deliverables.
- Support adoption through documentation, demonstrations, training, release communications, and structured handover to support teams.
- Monitor product performance and user feedback after launch, diagnose issues, and coordinate internal teams, vendors, and implementation partners to deliver quality outcomes within scope and schedule.
What you'll need to be successful.- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, Data Science, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
- Experience delivering enterprise digital products, data solutions, or technical platforms through the full product lifecycle.
- Experience with R&D, product development, scientific, laboratory, formulation, innovation, or related business processes within a consumer-packaged goods organization is strongly preferred.
- Strong experience translating complex business and technical needs into solution designs, user stories, functional requirements, acceptance criteria, and delivery plans.
- Hands-on knowledge of data engineering, system integration, APIs, data modelling, software development practices, and cloud-based architectures.
- Working knowledge of Databricks and SQL is preferred.
- JavaScript experience is preferred.
- Experience with AI, machine learning, generative AI, or AI-enabled product delivery is an asset.
- A strong interest in responsible AI and enthusiasm for continuous learning.
- Demonstrated ability to manage technical priorities, dependencies, risks, testing cycles, releases, and vendor contributions in an agile delivery environment.
- Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills, with the ability to explain technical topics clearly to business, scientific, and leadership audiences.
- Strong systems-thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to balance business value, user experience, technical feasibility, security, and long-term sustainability.
About the team.This role is part of the Digital Technology team and reports to the Sr. Product Owner. The position does not have direct reports.
The Product Engineer works within a cross-functional product environment and partners closely with R&D and Innovation, Product Development, Data and AI, Enterprise Architecture, Security and Privacy, Infrastructure, Product Owners, regional business stakeholders, vendors, and implementation partners.
The role is based in Toronto, Ontario, and is primarily performed in an office or hybrid working environment, subject to local arrangements. Travel is limited.
Compensation Package : $85,500.00 - $114,000.00 . CAD annually + Bonus Eligibility
