Full Job Description
About the Role

Gusto's Growth team owns the full customer funnel - from a small business's first visit to gusto.com through onboarding and into ongoing expansion. Two of the most complex, cross-cutting systems inside that funnel are how we price and package our products, and how we orchestrate the messages customers get across email, sales, and in-product surfaces. Neither has ever had dedicated, systems-level design support until now.

This role is leveled at the equivalent to a Staff-level. As Product Designer in this scope, you'll own the design system for how promotions, tiers, and SKUs are presented consistently across the funnel, including a unified checkout experience, and drive the next wave of iteration following our fall pricing & packaging refresh. Alongside that, you'll partner closely with our Revenue Systems team to define the target-state UX vision for customer-centric orchestration: establishing how a customer experiences one coordinated set of communications across email, sales, and in-product/AI surfaces, rather than a patchwork of independent touchpoints, and drawing the line between what belongs at the platform level versus the channel level. You'll round this out with lighter-touch, ongoing design support for Invoicing & Billing as needs arise, including near-term work like multi-entity billing.

This is a systems-thinking role, with direct impact on revenue generation. You'll need to be as comfortable zooming out to define a multi-team experience architecture as you are zooming in to get the details of a specific surface right, and you'll need a strong customer experience and business sensibility to match.
About the team

Gusto's Growth team is dedicated to helping customers discover, adopt, and expand into the Gusto ecosystem in meaningful ways. You'll be joining a collaborative, cross-functional team of designers, engineers, PMs, data scientists, and key business partners who care deeply about customer experience - and who operate at the intersection of product-led growth, marketing, and sales. In this role, you'll work closely with partners across Growth & Commerce, Revenue Systems, Sales, Marketing, and BizTech, while serving as the lead designer across several interrelated surfaces and systems.
Here's what you'll do day-to-day:
  • Design dynamic pricing and packaging displays that span the funnel-from acquisition through activation and billing to ensure that buyers will quickly and confidently purchase Gusto products.
  • Design across Gusto's invoicing and billing surfaces, building on the recently rebuilt IBEX platform
  • Build and improve internal tools such as the Promo Engine and Product Catalog, and improve existing workflows in Gusto's internal platforms, to enable self-service and better outcomes for internal teams across Growth, Marketing, Accounting, Sales, and Expansion Sales.
  • Partner with Revenue Systems to define the target-state UX vision for multi-channel messaging orchestration-establishing systems cohesion across email, sales, and in-product/AI surfaces, and standardizing how AI-driven messaging is structured, sequenced, and represented to customers.
  • Draw the line between what belongs at the platform level versus the channel level (e.g., AI Email, Rec Center, Gus) so each surface stops solving the same problems separately.
  • Drive holistic service design, connecting the dots between how internal teams support customer decisions and how customers experience pricing, billing, and messaging throughout their journey.
  • Collaborate deeply with cross-functional partners to align on strategy, lead workshops, and co-create end-to-end solutions across multiple surfaces.
  • Create scalable, consistent patterns by working with and contributing to Gusto's design system to ensure alignment across internal and external experiences.
  • Use a mix of data and qualitative insights to validate decisions, inform tradeoffs, and refine designs over time through iteration.
Here's what we're looking for:
  • 8+ years of product design experience with a strong portfolio of systems-level design, internal tooling, and customer-facing product surfaces.
  • Experience working on complex, data-rich products-particularly in B2B SaaS environments with interconnected product offerings.
  • Demonstrated success in designing for both internal users and external customers, and the ability to balance their competing needs.
  • Fluency in UX best practices, UI design, interaction design, and accessibility standards.
  • Strong service design capabilities and a proven ability to map and simplify complex systems across touchpoints and orgs.
  • Experience designing for multi-channel systems cohesion-unifying messaging, sequencing, and experience across email, sales, and in-product/AI surfaces-and a point of view on standardizing AI-driven messaging at scale.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to lead through influence and align cross-functional teams.
  • Comfort leading ambiguous, 0-to-1 work, and building long-term vision while executing toward near-term milestones.
  • Experience using tools like Figma, Amplitude, and FullStory-and in leveraging mixed-methods research to inform design.
  • Passion for empowering internal teams and improving the quality of internal systems through intuitive, scalable design.

Our cash compensation range for this role is $147,000/yr to $183,000/yr in Denver, and $177,000/yr to $222,000/yr in San Francisco and New York. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors, including candidate experience and expertise, and may vary from the amounts listed above.

Gusto has physical office spaces in Denver, San Francisco, and New York City. Employees who are based in those locations will be expected to work from the office on designated days approximately 2-3 days per week (or more depending on role). The same office expectations apply to all Symmetry roles, Gusto's subsidiary, whose physical office is in Scottsdale.

Note: The San Francisco office expectations encompass both the San Francisco and San Jose metro areas.

When approved to work from a location other than a Gusto office, a secure, reliable, and consistent internet connection is required. This includes non-office days for hybrid employees.
