Full Job Description
APPLE INC has the following available in Cupertino, California and various unanticipated locations throughout the USA. Conceptualize, design, develop, and bring into production products that will continually re-define the mobile experience. Design, engineer, and validate concepts, parts, and solutions using 3D computer-aided design (CAD) tools. Lead the end-to-end design and engineering integration of a complex sub-system within the iPhone, which typically involves multiple customerfacing features. Collaborate closely with multiple technical and operations disciplines spanning cross-functional teams to define engineering requirements and manage the resolution of design challenges associated with integrating key technologies into the iPhone. Interact and collaborate with overseas manufacturers to ensure designed part and features are compatible with mass producible manufacturing methods like injection molding, stamping, insert molding, and assembly. Analyze structural and functional robustness of the design by working with finite element analysis and using statistical tools / techniques. Resolve issues and ensure the design meets requirements throughout its lifecycle by applying mechanical and material engineering principles to conduct failure analysis and determine root cause. Utilize materials and mechanics of materials engineering principles to design material-based solutions conducive to mass production. Requires demonstrated knowledge of plastics and metal part design within mass production setting. Parse and synthesize large datasets and complicated design details into visual summaries that clearly communicate issues and proposed solutions. Conduct failure analysis using data collected on advanced instruments such as industrial computational topographic x-ray scanners and scanning electron microscopes to determine root cause and corrective design changes. Develop innovative analysis tools such as data visualizaiton, data processing, or material analysis. International Travel Required 20%. 40 hours/week. At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $147,400 - $220,900/yr and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, computer engineering, or a related field and 3 years of experience in the job offered or a related occupation. 3 years of experience with the following skills is required: Utilizing 3D CAD programs to design complex sub-systems. Utilizing Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Assembly (DFA) to design product for mass production methods such as injection molding. Utilizing Technical drawings, including callouts for functional tolerancing and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), first article inspection (FAI)/ statistical process control (SPC), and ongoing reliability testing (ORT) to define and communicate design intent and engineering tolerances Data processing and visualization to assess performance of new, breakthrough technologies. Mathematical Analysis by using jmp and Excel Utilizing Lathe and Mill methods to prototype or create components requiring tight tolerance or specific cosmetic finish Utilizing Composite Materials Structural Analysis for Material Structuring using Finite Element Analysis (FEA).
