Full Job Description
Position Summary

Value Chain Optimization is seeking a motivated employee with interest in commodities scheduling and optimization of the refinery, while working closely with business partners to identify and advance optimization opportunities. This position works across organizations, including but not limited to MPLX, Commercial Scheduling, Commercial Planning & Optimization, and Refinery Products Control. The ideal candidate should be a strong communicator with interest in learning refinery economics and MPC's commercial side of the business.

VCO views this as a growth opportunity for an employee seeking to gain knowledge in refinery logistics & economics, as well as the commercial side of the business. This position is located at the Anacortes WA Refinery and will report directly to Refinery Economics & Planning Manager.

Key Responsibilities

  • Understands economics that are needle movers associated with refinery scheduling responsibilities. Coordinates with key stakeholders to maximize feedstock or product value. Has clearly identified value opportunities in coordinating role and executes them. On call around the clock to respond to unexpected events, making contingency arrangements to minimize disruption of supply and minimize refinery impacts. Actively works with tank farm and refinery operations to ensure understanding of logistic and economic planning.
  • Proficient in APS scheduling software, utilizing it in daily job tasks. Proficient in other software to manage dock scheduling/optimization, product certification, etc. Potential to develops optimized and executable production plans for a single refinery using linear programming simulation models. Modifies production plans as needed to adjust to demand/margin changes. Identifies constraints associated with refinery modeling, uses provided input to develop refinery plans.
  • Assists in developing decision-making frameworks and presenting findings to stakeholders.
  • Manages scheduling and coordinating responsibilities independently. Has built relationships with key Refinery and Commercial stakeholders.
  • Executes new business processes and improves existing processes to reduce risk, improve performance, and add value to the operations team. Executes efficiency upgrades to work processes for their respective area.
  • Able to provide backup coverage to at least one product coordinator position.
  • Understands financial implications of supply coordination across multiple desks. Proactively identifies and communicates commercial / operational optimization opportunities that improve area's financial disposition.


Education and Experience

Product Coordinator
  • Bachelor's degree or five (5) years of experience in feedstocks or refined products coordinating or proven execution in refining and marketing/petrochemical industry in lieu.
  • Three (3) years of experience in crude oil/refined products coordinating experience or proven execution of equal ability in refining and marketing/petrochemical industry.


Senior Product Coordinator
  • Bachelor's degree or five (5) years of experience in feedstocks or refined products coordinating or proven execution in refining and marketing/petrochemical industry in lieu.
  • Seven (7) years of experience in crude oil/refined products coordinating experience or proven execution of equal ability in refining and marketing/petrochemical industry.
