Full Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY:

The Planning & Optimization Manager leads crude oil supply and demand optimization for the South and West refining systems, coordinating across Trading, Refining, and Scheduling to identify and execute commercial opportunities. Serves as the strategic liaison to ensure alignment across feedstock acquisition, pricing, logistics, and refinery operations, while tracking economic uplift and performance metrics. Develops subject matter expertise in crude pricing and optimization, supporting strategy execution and continuous improvement initiatives.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversees crude oil supply/demand for South and West refining systems and identifies optimization opportunities.
  • Coordinates with Trading, Refining, and Scheduling to identify and evaluate economics of available supply/demand balances in South and West Region refineries to realize commercial opportunities.
  • Communicates system opportunities for optimum refinery operation in 30-120-day period to Trading and Refineries. Collaborates with Trading to provide timely market opportunities and pricing to meet system requirements.
  • Maintains and tracks economic uplift and key performance indicators for crude optimization and strategic decisions.
  • Makes daily contact between Refinery, Transportation, and Marketing to communicate feedstock needs, crude availability, and refinery operating status. Evaluates and coordinates opportunities within the refining system to capture synergies.
  • Provides support to the strategy implementation and business development activities.
  • Acts as liaison between Trading, MPLX, Scheduling, and Refining to ensure alignment on direction to meet optimized plan and capture commercial opportunities.
  • Coordinates with the Quality and Measurements group to ensure appropriate and adequate compilation of measurement data to determine the success of the feedstock acquisition process and to initiate continuous improvement processes/practices.
  • Ensures improved customer relations by reviewing process efficiency and effectiveness such as schedule compliance, pricing, and quality assurance. Develops into subject matter expert on crude pricing and optimization processes.


EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering required.
  • Eight (8) or more years of Refining Operations, Planning, and/or Commercial experience required.
