Job Description

NBC News Digital Video Productions is seeking a journalist to produce content for NBC News' digital app with a focus on its new subscription product. We're looking for a news junkie who lives across a diverse range of news platforms, has strong editorial judgment, and can produce content in a variety of formats, with a focus on live content.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, working with anchors and correspondents across their beats and expertise, and identifying key moments in the news cycle to leverage NBC News journalists to create rich and bespoke live content for subscribers.

The ideal candidate will be exceptionally organized and detail-oriented. This candidate must be able to spot opportunities in the news cycle to create distinct, highly compelling, and insightful content for subscribers, leveraging our on-camera anchors and correspondents. This candidate must be an excellent communicator and cross-team collaborator. They should have a strong understanding of the formats and types of content that resonate with audiences and how to apply them to the stories we cover. This role is based in New York and is represented by the News Guild - NY CWA.

Responsibilities
  • Follow the biggest news stories and latest developments around
  • Stay abreast of NBC News' original reporting and stories being pursued across the newsroom to spot opportunities around planned or developing coverage
  • Collaborate with anchors, correspondents, producers, and reporters to create compelling video franchises and content
  • Pitch, research, shoot, and manage the live production of these live experiences for the NBC News app and site
  • Execute new video formats and franchises in the live space, as needed
  • Experiment with new techniques and visual styles
  • Uphold our news standards


Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent years of relevant working experience
  • 3 or more years of experience producing for a live news outlet or show
  • A deep understanding of how to pre-produce live videos that meet peak editorial standards
  • Experience collaborating with correspondents, reporters, and broadcast talent
  • A strong grasp of analytics and the ability to absorb feedback on content performance and incorporate that into the production approach, where needed
  • Strong news judgment and excellent writing, research, interviewing, and communication skills
  • Ability to pivot quickly to breaking news assignments and adjust priorities as needed
  • Flexibility to respond to breaking news situations outside of regular working hours
  • Continue to experiment and evolve our video franchises, story selection, formats, and visual styles
  • Experience shooting professionally on Sony/Canon camera systems and iPhones is a plus
  • Fluency in Adobe Premiere and other post-production tools is a plus

Additional Requirements
  • Hybrid: This position has been designated as hybrid, which currently requires contributing from the office a minimum of four days per week. The Company reserves the right to change in-office requirements at any time.

Salary range: $93,000 - $120,000
