Plant Process Engineer - Clinton, IA
This is an exempt level position.

Position Summary: The Plant Process Engineer will apply engineering principles to both new and existing operations, with responsibilities ranging from process design to the evaluation and implementation of new technologies. This role requires strong technical knowledge and effective communication skills to ensure that safety, quality, production, and cost objectives are achieved.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Work with company expertise and technology partners. Apply innovative approaches as joint effort with Production and Maintenance
  • Assist new product development and new technology assessment
  • Support capital projects and startups, including the application of the ten core Process Engineering competencies
  • Develop process simulation models to fundamentally understand and benchmark plant performance
  • Partner with Production to implement and transfer advanced process control (APC) and optimization applications
  • Serve as a resource and networking point for engineering colleagues through coaching, mentoring, and training
  • Participate in multi-disciplinary teams to develop standard plant performance metrics and maximize shareholder value
  • Drive standards for engineering excellence to new levels; capture and propagate best practices
  • Develop communication and teamwork skills across functional and divisional boundaries. Potential interactions include but not limited to: safety, production, management, project engineering, energy, cost accounting, process control, commercial, vendors, partners, maintenance, legal, inter-department, inter-plant, research, and corporate resources
Required Skills:
  • Strong commitment to working safely, the safety of others, and safe design
  • Dedication to continuous improvement and professional skill development
  • Experience with process control, including FLEX and APC
  • Willingness to spend time in plant areas - tolerate extreme temperatures, walk long distances, stand, climb stairs and ladders and move through close spaces
  • Ability to work effectively on both co-located and geographically dispersed teams
  • General knowledge of codes, relevant standards and materials of construction
Required Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience in plant operations
  • Familiarity with OSHA and Process Safety Management (PSM) standards.
  • Experience working with process control systems.
  • Understanding of food safety, quality, and regulatory requirements
  • Experience supporting capital projects, reviewing Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs) and Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), and assisting with the commissioning of new equipment.
Desired Experience:
  • Five (5) years of experience in oilseed crushing, solvent extraction, edible oil refining, biodiesel production, or vegetable oil processing facilities.
  • Knowledge of seed preparation, extraction, distillation, refining, grain handling, drying, and utility systems.
  • Participation in Performance Excellence initiatives, including Losses to Action, DMAIC projects, and Zero-Failure deployments.
  • Experience leading continuous improvement initiatives to increase oil recovery, reduce solvent losses, and improve energy efficiency.
  • Participation in HAZOP studies, Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs), and risk assessments.
  • Experience with SAP or similar ERP systems.
