Job Overview

The Process & Controls Commissioning Engineer will perform acceptance testing and pre-commissioning of protection and control (P&C) equipment in the factory using procedures set-forth by Systems Control and its utility partners. #LI-TB1

A Day In The Life

  • Apply protective relay settings and perform testing that validates proper function.
  • Apply RTU settings and verify status, metering, and control functions.
  • Troubleshoot and problem-solve when deficiencies are identified.
  • Perform testing procedures and document the results completely, in accordance with internal and customer-specific requirements.
  • Keep up-to-date with utility industry trends and practices by attending relevant training opportunities.
  • Provide technical support to engineering, manufacturing and test departments.
  • Identify potential process improvements and collaborate with other team members.
  • Notify designers and engineers of deficiencies identified during testing.
  • Execute testing procedures that ensure elements of P&C design are properly applied and functioning as intended.

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent education and experience.
  • Experience testing electric utility P&C equipment preferred.
  • NFPA and OSHA safety certified, or ability to become certified.
  • Commitment to continued education, training, and learning new tasks.
  • Familiar with some electric utility industry testing and documentation requirements.
  • General understanding of the operation, application, and testing of protective relays.
  • Understand the importance of safe work practices associated with the electric utility industry.
  • Ability to incorporate human performance tools into daily work practices.
  • Familiar with RTU point assignments and checkout preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail with proven analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Self-starter able to work both in teams and individually with limited supervision.
  • Familiar with electric utility P&C schematic and wiring diagrams preferred.
  • Competent with Microsoft Office Suite programs: Excel, Outlook, Word.
