Description
Hennepin County Department of Community Corrections and Rehabilitation (DOCCR) is seeking a Senior Probation/Parole Officer for the Intensive Supervised Release (ISR) Unit within the Adult Specialized Supervision Services (ASSS). This position will provide community-based supervision to high-risk individuals being released from prison and work towards client change and public safety through supervision strategies matched to needs and risk.

Salary based upon qualifications:
Probation/Parole Officer, Senior salary: $71,643.66 - $107,465.50 Annually Location and hours:This position is hybrid and will be performed both on-site at Brookdale Probation Services located at 6125 Shingle Creek Parkway, Suite 300, Brooklyn Center, MN 55430 and remote as job duties require. This position will be required to work non-traditional hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. ISR Agents are required to cover their phone Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. While this position is designated as hybrid, based on current requirements, hires must reside in or relocate to Minnesota or Wisconsin. New Employee Orientation (NEO) for all new benefit-earning employees is in-person in downtown Minneapolis. Details about NEO will be provided upon hire.About the position type:

In this position, you will:

• Provide caseload supervision and compliance monitoring for individuals on ISR, utilizing research-supported practices to increase intrinsic motivation for change and promote skill building through the use of Evidence-Based Practices (EBP) when working with clients in the field.
• Complete required contact standards, such as client contacts in the community (residence, work, school, treatment, etc.) and client transports.
• Respond to urgent and emergent situations, collaborating with law enforcement and other partners regarding clients' criminal activity, and problem-solve using application of established policies and procedures to promote public safety and rehabilitation.
• Evaluate clients' risk, needs, and presenting behaviors. Make referrals for appropriate treatment and/or programming.
• Maintain accurate documentation of case activity, including but not limited to, contacts with clients, victims, concerned parties and treatment agencies, utilizing department and other case management systems.
• Interface with District Court and/or Department of Corrections including report writing, attending hearings, providing testimony, and defending recommendations.
• Perform administrative duties and responsibilities, including monitoring social media sites, administering breathalyzers, collection and processing of urinalysis samples, forensic examinations, planned searches, and data tracking/analysis.
• Participate and lead projects/initiatives to improve services in assigned division.
  • Individuals hired at the Senior PO level must operate with limited oversight and demonstrate an ability to actively case manage more complex cases, independently developing/adjusting supervision and/or case plans and defending decisions independently and perform the duties listed above.
• Demonstrate good judgement, discretion, and decision-making in all aspects of the role.
• Adhere to governing local, state, and federal laws in addition to DOCCR and DOC policies.
• Work successfully with cross-cultures, be respectful of lived experiences in all communications, and demonstrate on-going expansion of one's own awareness and understanding of culture and active support for equity.

Need to have:

• One of the following:
  
  • Bachelor's degree in sociology, social work, criminal justice, psychology, counseling, law enforcement, education, and three years of full-time equivalent paid or unpaid experience in corrections, probation/parole, social work, counseling, human services case management, non-profit case management, law enforcement, client facing roles in criminal justice or courts, or education role serving students with individual development plans.
  • Related education and experience to total seven years.
  • Note: The Evidence Based Practice Corrections Professional Certificate may be substituted for one year of relevant experience.
• A valid driver's license and the ability to obtain a Hennepin County driver's permit.

Nice to have:

• Experience:
  • Working as/or have ever been a probation/parole officer.
  • Conducting home and/or community visits with clients.
  • Working with the Department of Corrections violation processes.
  • Writing detailed reports.
  • Using CSTS (electronic client management system).
• Knowledge of casework or case management practices, interviewing and investigative methods, the criminal justice system, criminology, individual and group behavior, legal procedures, and strength-based approaches to motivating behavioral change.
• Ability to build effective, strength-based relationships; demonstrate a high level of customer service; be flexible and adaptive when working with clients, peers, and internal and external stakeholders; maintain confidentiality, resolve conflicts, problem solve, and make recommendations and decisions within authority of the criminal justice system.
• Excellent communication skills and well organized, detail oriented, and comfortable with evolving technology.
