Description

This Principal level Engineering role is a unique opportunity for a creative, curious, and entrepreneurial technical individual. The incumbent will join an early-stage research and development group exploring new or poorly met clinical needs and related technologies in the Advanced Patient Monitoring space. You will have the chance to work within a small, highly motivated team where your impact will be immediately recognized. Apply your deep technical knowledge, clinical exposure and drive to help patients. Independently lead research, work closely with clinicians and external research partners and team up with Business Development and Marketing as we together create the future direction of our Advanced Patient Monitoring business.

Responsibilities:

  • Technical leadership of early-stage technology proof of concept projects.


  • Own proof of concept projects. Responsible for planning, execution, and delivery of complex projects that span multiple disciplines.


  • Brainstorm, synthesize and analyze concepts either generated internally or through evaluation of external innovation and opportunities.


  • Work closely with Strategy and Marketing partners on areas of interest.


  • Work closely with clinicians to identify and understand unmet needs.


  • Learn and build knowledge of competitive technologies as well as medical and biomedical developments related to our areas of focus in Advanced Patient Monitoring.


  • Present results and strategies to executive team and partnering physicians.


  • Take concepts from needs definition to first human use.


Ideal Candidate

The Principal Engineer must be able to demonstrate strong skills and curiosity as an innovative problem solver. They will have the ability to work independently and as a member of a team while managing competing priorities in a fast-paced environment, having comfort with ambiguity. Being able to professionally interact with leading critical care physicians as well as taking an active role in animal studies and clinical work in the OR/ICU environments will be key to success in this role.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical engineering


  • 6+ years' experience in the medical device industry


  • Experience with proof of concept /early-stage products, having a good track record in innovation and early phase development.


  • Experience applying technical knowledge and judgement to complex technical problems and technical proficiency


  • Hands-on experience with sensors, low noise electronics and signal transduction


  • Deep knowledge of tissue - photon interactions, LEDs, photodiodes and analog-front-end electronics


  • Able to communicate and interact with leading critical care physicians


  • Willing to take active roles in animal studies and clinical work in OR/ICU environments.


Preferred Skill/Knowledge:

  • Master's or PhD degree in engineering with 2-4+ years of medical device experience.


  • Knowledge of applicable FDA regulations for medical device industry


  • Experience developing product requirements from needs/VOC


  • Prior experience with early phase development of technologies through bench and animal studies to proof of concept
