About the Role

Blackbaud is seeking a Principal Tax Analyst to join our Finance & Administration organization. This role plays a key part in supporting our global income tax function, with a primary focus on U.S. income tax provision, compliance, reporting, technical analysis, and continuous process improvement.

This is an opportunity for a strong tax professional to step into a high-ownership role within a public-company environment. The ideal candidate will bring deep experience in U.S. income tax accounting and provision, strong technical judgment, and the ability to independently manage recurring tax workstreams. International tax experience is helpful but not required.

This role is especially compelling for someone coming from public accounting who wants to broaden their scope, gain direct business partnership experience, and contribute to the modernization of the tax function through better use of technology, automation, analytics, and AI-enabled tools.

What You'll Do

Tax Provision & Reporting

  • Own significant portions of the quarterly and annual ASC 740 income tax provision process, including calculations, supporting schedules, workpapers, and variance analysis.

  • Analyze tax account activity, return-to-provision adjustments, uncertain tax positions, and key drivers affecting reported results and cash taxes.

  • Support tax reporting requirements within a public-company environment.

Tax Compliance

  • Lead day-to-day execution of U.S. income tax compliance activities in partnership with external service providers.

  • Coordinate deliverables, timelines, and supporting documentation to ensure accurate and timely filings.

  • Support international tax compliance and related reporting activities as needed.

Technical Tax & Business Partnership

  • Research and analyze tax issues arising from business activities, transactions, and organizational changes.

  • Translate technical tax concepts into clear and practical recommendations.

  • Support transfer pricing, intercompany tax matters, and legal entity reporting activities.

Process Improvement & Technology

  • Identify opportunities to improve tax processes, documentation quality, controls, and data integrity.

  • Support automation, analytics, and technology-driven initiatives that improve efficiency and scalability.

  • Evaluate and leverage AI-enabled tools while maintaining appropriate review, governance, and control practices.

Audit & Controls

  • Support internal and external audit requests by preparing reconciliations, schedules, and supporting documentation.

  • Maintain compliance with applicable tax laws, regulations, internal controls, and corporate policies.

  • Contribute to a scalable, well-documented, and efficient tax operating model.

What You'll Bring

Required Qualifications

  • 6+ years of corporate income tax experience gained through public accounting, industry, or a combination of both.

  • Strong knowledge of ASC 740 and corporate income tax accounting principles.

  • Strong foundation in U.S. income tax provision and compliance.

  • Ability to independently manage recurring workstreams in a deadline-driven environment.

  • Strong analytical, organizational, documentation, and communication skills.

  • Experience working with tax systems, financial systems, Excel, and data analysis tools.

  • Demonstrated ownership mindset and ability to collaborate effectively across functions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPA certification or active progress toward CPA certification.

  • Big Four public accounting experience strongly preferred.

  • Experience with national or mid-sized public accounting firms supporting public-company clients.

  • Experience supporting public-company tax reporting requirements.

  • Exposure to international tax, transfer pricing, legal entity reporting, or multi-jurisdictional tax matters.

  • Experience with tax technology, Power BI, Alteryx, automation tools, or AI-enabled solutions.

  • Demonstrated interest in continuous improvement, automation, and technology adoption within Finance and Tax functions.
