Northrop GrummanSpace Systems is seeking a Principal/Sr. Principal Software Engineer 6 Embedded Test to join the Western Region Software Engineering directorate in Manhattan Beach, CA.

The Western Region Software Engineering organization comprises more than 800 highly skilled professionals 6 Software Engineers, DevOps Engineers, Database Administrators, and Network Engineers 6 at every career stage, from earlycareer talent to senior chief engineers and architects. This group supports a wide array of programs and offers clear pathways for advancement into senior technical or leadership roles. The Principal/Sr. Principal Software Engineer 6 Embedded Testwill develop and test software that runs on resourceconstrained targets with softand hardrealtime requirements for flight, space, and ground systems. The software typically implements complex dataanalysis, routing, and controlalgorithm functions. Candidates must be familiar with diverse processor, memory, and I/O architectures and be proficient in both procedural and objectoriented C++ development. Experience with realtime operating systems such as VxWorks or Linux 6and their associated development environments and tools 6is essential.

Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Design, develop, document, integrate, test, and debug application software and systems that implement logical and mathematical solutions.
  • Conduct multidisciplinary research and collaborate with equipment designers and hardware engineers to plan, design, develop, and deploy electronic dataprocessing solutions for product software.
  • Determine overall system and user requirements; analyze system capabilities to resolve issues related to program intent, output specifications, input data acquisition, programming techniques, and controls; author operating instructions; and create utility programs.
  • Ensure adherence to established software standards.

The ideal candidate should have academic and professional experience in software engineering across the full lifecycle of automated test sets and test systems for space programs. Proven ability to operate in a processoriented environment employing waterfall, spiral, or agile methodologies is needed to succeed in this role. Moreover, the selected candidate must have strong verbal and written communication skills, with demonstrated comfort working on large, multidisciplinary teams in a laboratory setting.

Basic Qualifications 6 Principal Software Engineer 6 Embedded Test(Level 3):

  • Bachelors degree in a STEM discipline with 5+ years of relevant software development experience or Masters degree in STEM with 3+ years of stated experience or Ph.D. in STEM with 1+ year of stated experience
  • Active U.S. Government Secret clearance required at the time of application
  • Proficiency in C/C++ programming
  • Experience with formal verification processes following TLYF methodology to sell off embedded flight software requirements (functional/performance)

Basic Qualifications 6 Sr. Principal Software Engineer 6 Embedded Test(Level 4):

  • Bachelors degree in a STEM discipline with 8+ years of relevant software development experience or Masters degree in STEM with 6+ years of stated experience or Ph.D. in STEM with 4+ years of stated experience
  • Active U.S. Government Secret clearance required at the time of application
  • Proficiency in C/C++ programming
  • Experience with formal verification processes following TLYF methodology to sell off embedded flight software requirements (functional/performance)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with real-time operating systems, such as VxWorks or Linux
  • Ability and willingness to obtain U.S. Government Top Secret clearance and/or SCI Access
  • Prior work experience in developing and debugging embedded real-time systems

Primary Level Salary Range: $114,000.00 - $171,000.00

Secondary Level Salary Range: $142,200.00 - $213,400.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidates experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.

The application period for the job is estimated to be 20 days from the job posting date. However, this timeline may be shortened or extended depending on business needs and the availability of qualified candidates.
