This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities.
We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Software Engineer to develop and lead the technical strategy for the Supply Chain Technology organization. This team's primary focus is on building scalable solutions that automate and simplify Supply Chain and Manufacturing business processes. This ranges from procurement, material requirements planning (MRP), manufacturing scheduling, warehouse automation, and more.
You will serve as the technical owner of software strategy and implementation spanning the entirety of the Operations organization. Join us as we build the road to space!

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:Operational Excellence
- Write high-quality, efficient, and maintainable code in languages like Java, Python, and Javascript. Craft and build web interfaces in frameworks such as React and Angular.
- Champion operational excellence by reducing technical debt, maintaining low ticket counts, ensuring high availability, minimizing mean time to recovery, and implementing extensive monitoring and alarms
- Lead technical design reviews across the organization building repeatable processes and mechanisms to scale design and delivery of software.
AI Strategy
- Lead AI guidelines for software development, establishing and refining standards and ensuring our software organization maintains a high standard for responsible use
- Identify and implement novel applications of AI to cultivate a more efficient software engineering org
Business Ownership
- Collaborate directly with business partners to understand and solve their technical challenges
- Present sophisticated technical strategies to Supply Chain and Manufacturing leadership and advocate for engineering stability and process standardization
Leadership
- Extensively mentor software developers up to the Senior SDE level
- This role does not have any direct reports
Minimum Qualifications:- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field
- 12+ years of experience writing and deploying software in production environments
- Proven ability to proactively identify problems that are not yet realized where a path to the optimal solution is not clear, and to deliver scalable solutions
- Consistent track record of proactively identifying, pursuing and resolving org-wide challenges, without direction from management
- Established background in researching and incorporating modern AI/ML tools
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience presenting to senior leadership, at or above the Vice President level
- Experience mentoring software engineers, including Senior Engineers
- Deep passion for aerospace and Blue Origin's mission
Preferred Qualifications:- Experience in design engineering manufacturing, supply chain, test and flight software and/or aerospace.
Compensation Range for:
WA applicants is $230,773.00 - $323,081.85
