Department Overview

The Compliance Strategy and Governance department in Ethics, Risk, and Compliance sets and manages the compliance management standards and framework for the company. This includes providing governance, oversight, and tools to enable PG&E departments and coworkers to conduct business in compliance with applicable laws and regulations and to effectively manage compliance risk. Functional responsibilities of the team related to enterprise-wide ethics and compliance management include strategic development, standards development, support for all Functional Areas, oversight and validation, enterprise-level IT tool ownership, and enterprise governance and reporting. The department also partners with the Ethics and Risk teams to promote a culture of compliance and ethics where employees are enabled and inspired to act with integrity, speak up to raise concerns and comply with all legal and regulatory requirements, and mitigate risk.

Major activities of the CSG team include: strategic program development, establishing compliance-specific policies and standards, support for all Functional Areas, enterprise-level IT tool ownership, oversight and validation, and enterprise governance and reporting. The department also partners with the Ethics team, who promote a culture where employees are enabled and inspired to act with integrity, speak up to raise concerns, and comply with all legal and regulatory requirements.

Position Summary

The Principal Risk and Compliance Analyst will have accountability for helping promote a culture of ethics and compliance, where PG&E coworkers are enabled and inspired to act with integrity, speak up to raise concerns and comply with all legal and regulatory requirements.

The role will be responsible for:

  • Managing and helping to provide assurance over enterprise compliance programs, procedures and systems;
  • Acting in a consultative capacity as a business partner and risk and compliance expert to Functional Areas;
  • Understanding the general business environment and associated risks and compliance requirements of the enterprise;
  • Supporting Functional Area efforts to identify and assess organizational compliance requirements and risks;
  • Developing effective controls and metrics, evaluating control deficiencies, supporting the design of mitigating activities, and helping to facilitate and publish policies and standards in line with compliance objectives and/or established risk management protocols;
  • Supporting a governance structure that enables Functional Areas and coworkers: (1) to conduct business in compliance with applicable laws, regulations and policies; and (2) identify, manage, and mitigate compliance risks that can affect the business; and
  • Acting as an advocate for and helping train and engage coworkers about risk and compliance to ensure an understanding of compliance program guidance.


This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned work location based on business need.

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity.

A reasonable salary range is:

Bay Area Minimum: $132,000

Bay Area Maximum: $226,000

Job Responsibilities
  • Provide strategic guidance, coaching, and hands-on support to Functional Areas as they strengthen and mature their ethics and compliance programs;
  • Develop innovative tools and solutions to support/improve ethics and compliance programs and enterprise-wide initiatives;
  • Drive coordinated work on key compliance areas, and work hands-on with Functional Area leaders to improve compliance performance and program elements;
  • Provide guidance on the company's management of cross-functional (shared) compliance obligations;
  • Assess Functional Area ethics and compliance programs;
  • Performing compliance validation activities and testing controls for design and operating effectiveness;
  • Evaluate and analyze regulatory requirement and internal commitment challenges to determine extent of condition and remediation efforts;
  • Examine alternate solutions to complex compliance challenges and effectively troubleshoot various problems;
  • Develop and present program challenges and program improvement recommendations to directors and officers;
  • Foster and maintain relationships with internal and external peers for benchmarking, analyzing trends, identifying best practices, and proactively planning for challenges and risks;
  • Lead continuous improvement in the enterprise Ethics & Compliance program;
  • Develop risk and compliance program strategies, templates, and enterprise-wide expectations;
  • Works independently with minimal guidance on complex risk and compliance issues with critical impact to Ethics & Compliance and PG&E;
  • Participate in established risk and compliance management forums;
  • Develops and coordinates preparation of presentation materials for various levels of management up to and including the Executive Officer Team;
  • Supports integrated planning deliverables related to enterprise ethics and compliance;
  • Works autonomously with all levels of leadership (up to and including senior vice president) across functions to influence decisions around risk and compliance issues;
  • Leads and develops materials for training and educating coworkers about compliance management principles; and
  • Assist with other compliance-related projects and activities as directed.


Qualifications

Minimum
  • Bachelor's degree in in any of Business, Economics, Management, Risk and Compliance, Accounting, Finance, or related discipline or equivalent experience
  • Ten (10) or more years of experience in risk or compliance management, utility operations or related field


Desired
  • Master's degree in Business Administration, Economics or comparable quantitative field or equivalent related work experience
  • Utility, energy, or regulatory industry experience
  • Knowledge of the utility or energy industry drivers, issues, and trends
  • Analytical problem solving and decision-making skills to develop comprehensive solutions
  • Demonstrated ability to influence across a diverse set of stakeholders
  • Creative and innovative solution-based thinking to implement new programs/processes or organizational improvements
  • Knowledge of change management and process improvement principles, concepts and practices
  • Ability to effectively communicate highly complex data and findings to diverse audiences using a variety of media
  • Certified Compliance and Ethics Professional certification, or equivalent
