Position Summary

The Principal Program Manager for Enterprise GIS is responsible for driving large-scale modernization programs to transform PG&E's geospatial capabilities. This role oversees programs within Elevate' Enterprise GIS and will act as a key liaison between business units, IT, and external vendors. The Principal Program Manager ensures alignment with corporate objectives and regulatory requirements while fostering innovation across the organization.

Core responsibilities include defining program implementation, governance frameworks, and execution plans for complex, multi-year initiatives. The role leads planning cycles such as program increment and yearly planning, manages budgets and risk, and enforces compliance with enterprise standards.

Ideal candidates bring deep expertise in GIS technologies, program management, and enterprise integration. They must demonstrate proficiency in Esri Utility Network, data governance principles, and large-scale system implementation. Strong communication and negotiation skills are essential for managing vendor relationships, securing stakeholder buy-in, and delivering measurable business value. By combining technical knowledge with strategic vision, the Principal Program Manager plays a critical role in shaping PG&E's future GIS landscape and enabling smarter, data-driven operations.

This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and Oakland, CA approximately 1 - 3 days per week, or more, based on business needs.

PG&E is providing the salary range that can reasonably be expected for this position at the time of the job posting. This salary range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, internal equity, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, and geographic location. The decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors. This job is also eligible to participate in PG&E's discretionary incentive compensation programs.

Bay Area Min: $144,000

Bay Area Mid: $194,000

Bay Area Max: $244,000

Job Responsibilities
  • Own program delivery for Enterprise GIS modernization efforts.
  • Define and enforce governance standards, quality rules, and publishing processes across GIS datasets.
  • Act as liaison between functional areas, vendors, and stakeholder teams.
  • Manage risk, compliance, and change control processes for in-year program adjustments.
  • Organize engagement activities such as workshops, roadshows, and governance forums.
  • Review vendor deliverables, contracts, and ensure compliance with enterprise standards.
  • Oversee remediation work for foundational datasets and support transformational efforts.
  • Identifies new partners, technologies, and delivery channels.
  • Develops and manages department expense budget. Regularly monitors expenses against forecast, providing explanation or justification for budget items and/or variances.
  • Communicate program status, risks, and benefits to stakeholders.
  • Mentors and provides guidance to less experienced colleagues.
  • Presents findings and makes recommendations to management.
  • Works with all levels of management and senior leadership across functions to influence decisions.
