OverviewThe Chromium Engineering System powers the full development lifecycle for Microsoft's Chromium-based products - including Microsoft Edge, WebView2, and the Copilot app on Windows. This platform enables hundreds of engineers to build, test, validate, and ship high-quality browser and AI-powered experiences at massive scale.
We're looking for a Principal Product Manager who can define the next generation of engineering systems that support both traditional browser development and emerging AI-driven application workflows. This role sits at the center of developer experience, AI-assisted coding, UX, and metrics - shaping how engineering teams innovate and deliver across the Chromium ecosystem.
If you thrive in complex technical environments and want to influence how AI transforms engineering productivity for one of the world's most important codebases, this is your arena. You'll shape the engineering backbone behind both Microsoft Edge and the Chromium Copilot app - two flagship experiences that reach hundreds of millions of users. You'll work with world-class engineers, push the boundaries of AI-augmented development, and build systems that meaningfully improve how software is created at scale.
Responsibilities- Product Vision & Strategy
- Own the end-to-end product strategy for the Chromium Engineering System, spanning build, test, validation, deployment, and developer workflows.
- Define how AI-assisted coding, automated reasoning, and intelligent tooling integrate into the engineering lifecycle for both Edge and the Chromium Copilot app.
- Partner with engineering leadership to align system investments with product goals, quality standards, and long-term architectural direction.
- Execution & Delivery
- Translate ambiguous engineering needs into clear product requirements, user stories, and measurable outcomes.
- Lead cross-disciplinary teams (engineering, AI/ML, UX, data science, program management) to deliver high-impact improvements.
- Manage complex, multi-team initiatives with clarity, structure, and a solid sense of prioritization.
- Developer Experience & UX
- Champion intuitive, efficient, and modern developer workflows across the Chromium stack.
- Collaborate with UX designers to craft interfaces and experiences that reduce friction and accelerate engineering velocity.
- Conduct user research, workflow mapping, and usability studies to deeply understand developer pain points and opportunities.
- Metrics & Insights
- Define the metrics framework for engineering system health, developer productivity, build/test efficiency, and workflow quality.
- Partner with data engineering to build dashboards, instrumentation, and analytics pipelines.
- Use data to validate impact, guide prioritization, and continuously refine the roadmap.
- Cross-Team Leadership
- Build solid relationships across Edge, Windows, and Microsoft-wide engineering system teams, as well as upstream Chromium communities when appropriate.
- Communicate vision, progress, and insights to senior leadership with clarity and influence.
- Foster a culture of operational excellence, transparency, and continuous improvement.
