Full Job Description
Presence shapes how people, creators, businesses, and communities show up, are understood, discover each other, and participate across Reddit. As Reddit continues to evolve across profiles, identity, business tools, discovery, and new consumer experiences, we need a Principal Product Designer to make these surfaces feel connected, navigable, trustworthy, and distinctly Reddit. This is a systems-level design role, not ownership of a single feature or vertical. You'll define how identity, profiles, business presence, community context, discovery, navigation, and participation work together across Reddit, creating the models and patterns that help Reddit evolve as one ecosystem while enabling individual teams to move quickly. You'll work across Design, Product, Engineering, Research, Data Science, Content Design, and executive leadership to turn ambiguity into clear product direction, durable frameworks, and executable paths forward. What You'll Do • Define the UX architecture for Presence across profiles, identity, business tools, community context, discovery, and new product surfaces. • Translate broad company priorities into multi-year experience strategy, decision frameworks, and sequenced paths from today's product to the future state. • Create shared models, interaction patterns, navigation approaches, and experience principles that multiple teams can build against. • Resolve overlaps, gaps, and conflicting approaches across teams before they become fragmented user experiences or duplicated investments. • Influence product direction and planning with senior Product, Engineering, Research, Data Science, Content Design, and Design leaders. • Lead UX framing for high-stakes ecosystem decisions, presenting recommendations, alternatives, risks, and success signals to senior executive audiences. • Use AI-assisted design and coding tools to prototype future-state concepts, test system behavior, expose edge cases, and accelerate strategic decisions. • Raise the quality bar for interaction design, information architecture, accessibility, trust, and systems coherence while mentoring senior designers. What You'll Bring • 10-12+ years of product design experience, including leadership of platform-scale or ecosystem-level initiatives across multiple product areas in consumer technology. • A portfolio showing Principal-level scope: original product vision, systems architecture, exceptional interaction design, executive influence, end-to-end coherence, and measurable impact beyond a single team or launch. • Experience defining foundational product architecture, shared interaction models, or platform strategies adopted by multiple teams. • Strong ability to influence product priorities and executive decisions without direct authority. • A track record of connecting long-term product vision to executable near-term launches, experiments, and organizational commitments. • Expert interaction design and information architecture skills, with sound judgment about when to reuse, evolve, or create new patterns. • Fluency with AI-assisted design and coding workflows, especially using prototypes to validate system behavior and improve strategic decisions. • Strong understanding of research, data, experimentation, accessibility, and technical constraints, plus exceptional communication and facilitation skills. This is a role for a designer who can make complex ecosystems feel simple, coherent, and worth coming back to. Benefits: • Comprehensive Healthcare Benefits and Income Replacement Programs • 401k with Employer Match • Global Benefit programs that fit your lifestyle, from workspace to professional development to caregiving support • Family Planning Support • Gender-Affirming Care • Mental Health & Coaching Benefits • Flexible Vacation & Paid Volunteer Time Off • Generous Paid Parental Leave Pay Transparency: This job posting may span more than one career level. About Reddit

Reddit is an American social news aggregation, web content rating, and discussion website. Registered members submit content to the site such as links, text posts, images, and videos, which are then voted up or down by other members. Posts are organized by subject into user-created boards called "communities" or "subreddits", which cover topics such as news, politics, religion, science, movies, video games, music, books, sports, fitness, cooking, pets, and image-sharing. Submissions with more upvotes appear towards the top of their subreddit and, if they receive enough upvotes, ultimately on the site's front page. Although there are strict rules prohibiting harassment, it still occurs, and Reddit administrators moderate the communities and close or restrict them on occasion. Moderation is also conducted by community-specific moderators, who are not considered Reddit employees. As of September 2021, Reddit ranks as the 19th-most-visited website in the world and 7th most-visited website in the U.S., according to Alexa Internet. About 42–49.3% of its user base comes from the United States, followed by the United Kingdom at 7.9–8.2% and Canada at 5.2–7.8%. Twenty-two percent of U.S. adults aged 18 to 29 years, and 14 percent of U.S. adults aged 30 to 49 years, regularly use Reddit. Reddit was founded by University of Virginia roommates Steve Huffman and Alexis Ohanian, with Aaron Swartz, in 2005. Condé Nast Publications acquired the site in October 2006. In 2011, Reddit became an independent subsidiary of Condé Nast's parent company, Advance Publications. In October 2014, Reddit raised $50 million in a funding round led by Sam Altman and including investors Marc Andreessen, Peter Thiel, Ron Conway, Snoop Dogg, and Jared Leto. Their investment valued the company at $500 million then. In July 2017, Reddit raised $200 million for a $1.8 billion valuation, with Advance Publications remaining the majority stakeholder. In February 2019, a $300 million funding round led by Tencent brought the company's valuation to $3 billion. In August 2021, a $700 million funding round led by Fidelity Investments raised that valuation to over $10 billion.
