The Principal Engineer Process (BLS) is responsible for leading a system design team on projects. Systems can include production and distribution of high purity gases and chemicals, upstream and downstream biologics processing, small molecule synthesis, fill/finish, and specialty chemicals, and high purity water, waste treatment, and clean and support utilities organization.

  • Lead or collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of engineers and designers to develop and document process system designs that meet project scope, industry best practices, and client standards, while requiring minimal supervision.
  • Develop process system designs through all project phases, from conceptual design and basis of design development through detailed engineering and construction documentation.
  • Maintain overall responsibility for the technical quality of process engineering deliverables, including concepts, Basis of Design documents, Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), equipment layouts, piping plans, specifications, schedules, and cost estimates.
  • Monitor project team performance to ensure adherence to project scope, schedule, budget, and quality objectives while providing mentorship, training, and technical guidance to junior engineering staff.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and the Process Knowledge Center by documenting lessons learned, completing Continuous Improvement Program (CIP) assignments, and leveraging shared knowledge and best practices across the organization.
  • Provide technical leadership and support during project execution, serving as a subject matter expert and making sound engineering decisions to address project challenges.
  • Support Project Design Managers and Construction Managers in project planning and execution activities, including fee development, change management, quality assurance, staffing, scheduling, progress reporting, and interdisciplinary coordination.
  • Serve as a Task Force Lead by partnering with Regional System Experts (RSEs) and project teams to develop and maintain standardized engineering tools, drawings, specifications, checklists, and calculators that promote consistency, efficiency, and repeatability across projects.
  • Develop and manage engineering manpower plans and labor budgets, monitoring resource utilization to support project schedule and financial performance objectives.
  • Provide specialized technical expertise for feasibility studies, conceptual designs, and detailed engineering efforts within assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Establish and continuously improve engineering procedures, workflows, and design standards to deliver high-quality, cost-effective solutions.
  • Prepare conceptual, preliminary, and final design packages, including engineering calculations, equipment sizing and selection, P&IDs, general arrangement drawings, and sequences of operation.
  • Coordinate closely with other engineering disciplines to ensure timely integration of cross-functional inputs and successful delivery of project requirements.

  • Professional Engineer (PE) License required
  • 10+ years of experience


Preferred Skills & Knowledge:
  • Nation Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) Record preferred
  • Prior experience with advanced technology
  • Prior experience in consulting engineering
  • Experience in the quality control review process and contributing to continuous improvement processes
  • Detailed understanding of all core Process Systems used in BLS projects.
  • Detailed knowledge and understanding of industry codes and standards applicable for their process system design and specifications
  • Detailed understating of Lean execution principles for design of projects
  • Good time management skills, strong work ethic and attention to details
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be a strong team player with an ability to build effective working relationships with individuals, department leads, and client representatives
  • Ability to train team on lean principles needed to design and manage project
  • Energetic and self-motivated
