What success looks like in this role:

The Principal IT architect will support enterprise infrastructure engagements for managed services clients, with responsibilities spanning pre-sales technical scoping, solution design and project delivery. Additionally, this role will help delivery teams provide managed services through industry best practices developed from established knowledge of "what good looks like," and will assist customers with technology planning around emerging and strategic initiatives.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Support pre- and post-sales technical scoping, contribute to Rough Order of Magnitude (ROM) estimates for infrastructure, software platform/user migration engagements
  • Design and delivery of technical solutions across virtualization, server, storage, database, network, and other platforms across a wide range of technologies
  • Own assigned projects from design through delivery, including client-facing technical and non-technical communication to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Serve as an execution-level owner on specific initiatives such as datacenter migrations, disaster recovery, cloud migrations
  • Set realistic but achievable expectations with clients on project scope, timeline, sequencing, prioritization
  • Work collaboratively with project resources and subject matter experts to extract task breakdowns, hours estimates, planning input
  • Proactively monitor and follow-up with assigned project resources to keep work on track
  • Adapt to significant variability in project scale and complexity from single-server builds to large, multi-phase engagements
  • Operate effectively in a fluid, evolving client environment undergoing rapid growth
  • Provide project management support and structure, ensuring engagements stay on track
  • Adhere and help maintain internal Solution Architecture standards, runbooks, documentation
  • Provide technical escalation support as needed
  • Work across core enterprise infrastructure, both cloud-based and on-premise including: VMware/vSphere, traditional physical server hardware, Oracle and SQL databases, RHEL/Linux, Windows server, and more
  • Assist customers with technology planning conversations including emerging technologies and other strategic initiatives
  • Advise account delivery teams on managed services best practices to promote consistent, high-quality outcomes


You will be successful in this role if you have:

To be successful in this role, a Principal Architect needs to be conversant across virtualization, compute, storage, operating systems, databases, networking, and other technologies to design a coherent solution supported by subject matter experts in specific technologies.

This would include items such as
  • Deep knowledge of enterprise virtualization (VMware/vSphere,) server hardware, SAN, etc.
  • Familiarity with both Unix/Linux as well as Windows Server administration
  • Working familiarity with networking fundamentals (firewalls, load balancers, VLANs, routing concepts, etc.)
  • Basic understanding of enterprise database platforms such as Oracle and Microsoft SQL
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently on scoped technical projects
  • Strong critical thinking skills in ambiguous and undocumented environments
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills able to cross both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Commitment to best practices that support team continuity
