Job Overview

The Digital Application Architect position requires an individual who is a highly skilled IT professional with end to end architecture leadership for all Digital Customer Experience (DCX) Platforms , leading all facets of system development and support within all development and project tracks for the IT Digital Customer Experience Application space including but not limited to OneWeb PC/Vans (www.mbusa.com / www.mbvans.com), eCommerce, 1CU applications across NAFTA. This role is accountable for defining, governing, and evolving the application architecture strategy and roadmap, ensuring consistent, scalable, and high-performing digital experiences aligned to business outcomes. The architect operates across multiple product teams, vendors, and platforms to ensure design integrity, cross-platform alignment, and long-term technology sustainability while adhering to enterprise architecture standards. The Application architect should closely align with the platform (infrastructure) team that supports each web application. The ideal candidate would be responsible for the implementation of large-scale information technology projects for Marketing & Sales along with operational support of the existing systems used by these departments. Project responsibilities include project plans, resource planning, executive management reporting, technical leadership, resource/team coaching, systems integration, technical architecture and vendor management. Operational support responsibilities include managing work assignments and deliverables for enhancements to the sites, resolution of defects, oversight of the QA process, and deployment to live sites. In addition, this role should be a guiding role for FOSS use, standards, and tracking within the organization

This position reports to directly to the Senior Manager for IT Digital Customer Experience

Responsibilities
The tasks include, but are not limited to:
• Own end-to-end Digital Customer Experience solution architecture across frontend, backend, integration, data, cloud, security, and observability, ensuring architectural decisions are directly traceable to measurable business outcomes (performance, scalability, availability, conversion)
• Act as the single architectural owner accountable for design integrity across: Frontend, BFF/API, backend services, Integration and data flows, Cloud infrastructure, security, and observability
• Ensure architectural decisions are traceable to business outcomes (conversion, performance, scalability, availability)
• Lead and enable engineering teams to deliver with speed, stability, and quality through clear direction, feedback, coaching, and proactive operational oversight
• Define and enforce application architecture standards, design patterns, and reference implementations across Digital Customer Experience platforms (CMS, eCommerce, Salesforce, 1CU), ensuring consistency, scalability, and reusability across delivery teams -- in alignment with Enterprise architecture, infrastructure and security guidelines and standards,
• Versatile team player and individual contributor with strong influence, communication, analytical and problem-solving skills
• Manage timelines and scope creep- Ensure architectural scope, sequencing, and dependencies are actively managed to prevent scope creep and delivery risk
• Provide architectural oversight and governance for CI/CD, cloud environments, CMS platforms, CDN, monitoring, and developer tooling in partnership with DevOps and platform teams Including but not limited to:
o Review and oversight of Jenkins pipeline setup review, maintenance, and support while leading in execution of respective pipelines.
• Work with DevOps teams to coordinate Jenkins pipelines (CI/CD) for deployment on AWS
o CDN administrator, rules engine and domain maintainer
o GitHub Enterprise support
o Google maps administrator
o DataDog support
• Establish and lead architecture review processes (design reviews, solution assessments, and technical decision frameworks) to ensure alignment with defined MBUSA / DCX architecture principles and business objectives
• Define and track architecture-level KPIs (e.g., page performance, uptime, deployment frequency, defect rates), and continuously refine architectural decisions based on measurable outcomes
• Assess ambiguous situations and provide clarity to team and stakeholders as required

Development and Leadership
• Operate as the architecture lead across multiple product teams and vendors, ensuring alignment of design decisions, minimizing duplication, and enabling consistent delivery across parallel workstreams
• Responsible for developing in accordance with MBUSA system development Methodologies. Designing, programming, and troubleshooting problems on new or existing technologies. Interface with Product Owners/Product Managers and business partners to develop new requirements and specifications as requested. Adhere to Security and quality standards, develop test plans, and oversee unit testing and pilots as required. Ensure deliverables are completed on time and within budget. Recommend, document, and update long-term strategy for hardware/software supporting Product Owners/Managers and business partners. Develop proposals, identify costs and propose release schedules
• Provide day to day support, including troubleshooting existing technology, services and applications to isolate and resolve technical issues
• Partner with Product Owners to shape and prioritize the technical backlog, ensuring architectural dependencies, technical debt, and platform improvements are properly represented and sequenced
• Review and analyze existing solutions, making proactive recommendations for enhanced performance, security and usability. Implement recommendations with management approval
• Ensure architecture documentation, decision records, and system designs are maintained, accessible, and consistently applied across teams to support transparency, onboarding, and long-term maintainability
Digital Transformation
• Define, execute and manage the web applications roadmap, ensuring all products are designed with a customer-centric mindset
• Design, implement, maintain web applications with close collaboration and alignment with ITT platform partners
• Ensure End-to-End IT capabilities are aligned to achieve specifics business goals. Translate business and product strategies into actionable application architecture designs, ensuring that platform capabilities directly support customer journey optimization, revenue growth, and operational efficiency
• Partner closely with product, business and IT leaders across relevant business units to define optimal products and digital customer experience Daimler Digital House (Daimler HQ), Research & Development, Mercedes-Benz Financial Services, and external agency partners/vendors
• Translate business and product strategies into actionable application architecture designs, ensuring that platform capabilities directly support customer journey optimization, revenue growth, and operational efficiency
• Own the multi year architecture roadmap for DCX platforms (CMS, eCommerce, 1CU, integrations). Ensure alignment between:
o Product roadmaps
o Platform roadmaps
o Technical debt reduction
o Security and compliance initiatives

Compliance and information security
• Be compliant with IT controls for the required products. Ensure planning, implementation, and appropriate controls in place to meet information security requirements and tasks
