Full Job Description
The Principal Enterprise Architect - Enterprise Applications will play a critical role in defining and governing enterprise application architecture strategies that support McKesson's business objectives. This individual will partner closely with business leaders, product teams, engineering teams, and enterprise architects to ensure scalable, secure, and integrated solutions across Supply Chain, Finance, HR, CRM, and other enterprise platforms.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience leading complex enterprise application transformations, establishing architecture standards, and guiding technology investment decisions across large-scale organizations.

Key Responsibilities

Enterprise Architecture Leadership

  • Represent the Enterprise Applications organization within the Enterprise Architecture Council and other governance forums.


  • Define, maintain, and enforce architectural standards, principles, reference architectures, and best practices across Enterprise Applications.


  • Lead cross-functional architecture reviews and design decisions to ensure scalable, secure, and maintainable solutions.


  • Develop target-state architectures and technology roadmaps supporting business and digital transformation initiatives.


  • Collaborate with business stakeholders and technology leaders to align enterprise application strategies with organizational goals.


  • Provide architectural leadership for modernization, cloud adoption, AI-enabled automation, platform consolidation, and SaaS transformation initiatives.


  • Ensure effective integration and interoperability across enterprise platforms and business capabilities.


  • Evaluate emerging technologies and provide recommendations that improve business outcomes, operational efficiency, and customer experience.


Enterprise Applications & Integration Architecture

Lead architecture across Enterprise Application domains including:

  • Supply Chain


  • Finance


  • Human Resources


  • Customer Relationship Management (CRM)


  • Procurement and Contract Lifecycle Management


Design and govern cross-platform integrations among enterprise systems including:

  • SAP


  • Workday


  • ServiceNow


  • Salesforce


  • PeopleSoft


  • Contract Lifecycle Management solutions


Establish architecture patterns, integration frameworks, API strategies, and data exchange standards.

  • Ensure enterprise applications support scalability, resilience, performance, compliance, and security requirements.


  • Lead business capability mapping and end-to-end process architecture initiatives across multiple functional domains.


Digital Transformation & Portfolio Alignment

  • Partner with business and technology teams to define strategic technology roadmaps and investment priorities.


  • Provide architecture oversight for key transformation programs, cloud migrations, ERP initiatives, platform upgrades, and modernization efforts.


  • Support portfolio prioritization through architecture assessments, technology rationalization, and solution evaluation.


  • Establish architectural governance processes to ensure projects align with enterprise standards and strategic objectives.


  • Drive adoption of enterprise architecture methodologies, tools, and model-based architecture practices.


Executive Advisory & Stakeholder Management

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to senior leadership and executive stakeholders.


  • Present architecture strategies, technology recommendations, and investment proposals to executive leadership teams.


  • Facilitate decision-making among technical and business stakeholders to balance risk, cost, complexity, and business value.


  • Influence strategic technology direction through data-driven recommendations and measurable business outcomes.


Minimum Requirements

Typically requires:

  • 13+ years of Enterprise Architecture, Solution Architecture, or Business Technology Architecture experience.


  • 7+ years leading enterprise-scale transformation initiatives across complex application ecosystems.


  • 5+ years providing architecture leadership across multiple business domains and enterprise platforms.


  • Demonstrated experience influencing senior technology and business leaders in large organizations.


Critical Skills

  • 13+ years of Business and Enterprise Architecture experience delivering large-scale digital transformation initiatives.


  • Deep experience designing enterprise application ecosystems and platform strategies.


  • 7+ years of experience architecting scalable enterprise data platforms, data migration strategies, and integration solutions.


  • 5+ years of experience implementing SaaS-based enterprise solutions.


  • 5+ years of experience designing and implementing enterprise integration and API frameworks.


  • Experience architecting solutions across ERP, Human Capital Management, CRM, Supply Chain, and IT Service Management platforms.


  • Strong understanding of cloud-based architectures and modernization strategies.


  • Experience delivering AI-enabled automation, advanced analytics, and intelligent business solutions.


  • Demonstrated success defining and executing enterprise technology roadmaps.


  • Excellent stakeholder management and executive communication skills.


  • Experience working in Agile and SAFe environments.


  • TOGAF or equivalent Enterprise Architecture certification preferred.
