Full Job Description
General Information:

Job Title: Principal Engineer - Zynque
Location: Toronto (Onsite/ Hybrid)
Job Type: Full-Time
Hiring Timeline: Immediate
Reporting Line: General Manager at Zynque
Existing Vacancy: Yes
Application Deadline: Open until Filled
Salary Range: $175 - $210K CAD per year (negotiable)

Role Overview

Zynque is FIQ's integration platform (iPaaS) for supply chain and logistics. After a year of development, it is live in production with active customers onboarding, and it now needs to grow into an enterprise-grade, high-throughput platform.

This is not a greenfield role, and it is not a maintenance role. It is a scale-up role: take a young production platform and harden it into a system that enterprises trust with their operations. You will own the architecture as it evolves under real load, with real customers, while the platform keeps shipping.

Must Have:
  • 10+ years building and operating cloud-native backend or platform systems
  • Owned the scaling of a production SaaS or data platform through rapid customer growth: hardening, re-architecture under load, and maturing an early product to enterprise grade
  • Deep hands-on experience with high-throughput distributed systems: event streaming or message queues, async processing, idempotency, retries, backpressure
  • Strong performance engineering: profiling, load testing, horizontal scaling, capacity planning
  • Production reliability ownership: observability, SLOs, incident management, fault-tolerant design
  • Multi-tenant SaaS experience, including tenant isolation and noisy-neighbor problems
  • Proficiency in Python and JavaScript/TypeScript (Next.js)
  • Hands-on daily coder with founder-level ownership; comfortable in low-process, high-ambiguity environments

Nice to Have:
  • Built or scaled an integration platform, ETL/data pipeline product, or API platform (connectors, transformation pipelines, webhooks)
  • Kafka or similar streaming infrastructure at scale
  • Supply chain or logistics systems exposure (WMS, OMS, TMS, EDI integrations)
  • AI-assisted engineering workflows; AI is deeply embedded in how we build
  • Experience shipping AI/LLM-driven capabilities in production (rag, generation pipeline, agentic workflows)

Key Responsibilities:
  • Own technical direction and architecture evolution of a live, revenue-generating platform
  • Scale throughput and reliability while customers onboard, including zero-downtime changes to running systems
  • Harden the platform: tenant isolation, rate limiting, security, data integrity
  • Establish observability, SLOs, and incident practices as the customer base grows
  • Lead performance and capacity work ahead of demand, not behind it
  • Raise engineering standards through design reviews and mentorship
  • Partner with Product to balance platform investment against feature delivery
  • Identify and retire scaling risks and technical debt before they compound

What Success Looks Like in the First 90 Days:
  • 30: Deep command of the codebase and production topology; shipping to production; documented view of the top scaling and reliability risks
  • 60: First major scaling or reliability improvements live; observability and SLO baseline established
  • 90: Enterprise-readiness roadmap owned and in motion; measurable gains in throughput, latency, or stability

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):
  • Platform uptime and reliability
  • Throughput and latency under growing customer load
  • Customer and integration onboarding velocity
  • Incident frequency and time to recovery
  • Enterprise scalability readiness
