Job Description:Microchip Technology Inc. has a Principal Engineer-Software opening based in Austin, TX. The Secure Computing Group (SCG) is seeking a highly motivated candidate to join the Applications Engineering team. This role will provide technical leadership for the architecture, development, integration, and deployment of embedded firmware and platform software solutions for Secure Computing products, with a focus on Embedded Controllers (EC), secure boot, root-of-trust technologies, TrustZone-enabled systems, and next-generation secure computing platforms.
Responsibilities:- Collaborate with cross-functional engineering, product management, silicon, validation, and customer-facing teams to drive product innovation, platform enablement, and customer success across x86 and Arm-based systems.
- Lead architecting secure firmware solutions, leading customer onboarding and technical engagements, enabling strategic customer deployments, driving software architecture decisions, and mentoring engineering teams across multiple projects.
- Development and integration of TrustZone and Trusted Firmware-M (TF-M) based solutions, secure provisioning frameworks, cryptographic services, secure firmware update mechanisms, and embedded AI technologies for intelligent endpoint and edge-computing applications.
- Perform as a technical authority for complex customer issues, security architecture reviews, platform software strategy, and next-generation product development initiatives.
Requirements/Qualifications:- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field with 10+ years of relevant industry experience.
- Experience in embedded firmware and software development for microcontrollers, embedded processors, and secure computing platforms.
- Expert-level programming skills in Embedded C and strong scripting capabilities using Python.
- Strong understanding of ARM architectures, Linux environments, and command-line build systems.
- Experience developing software for Cortex-M based platforms including TrustZone-enabled architectures.
- Experience with Trusted Firmware-M (TF-M), PSA concepts, secure and non-secure partitioning, and trusted execution environments.
- Strong understanding of secure boot, root-of-trust, device attestation, cryptographic provisioning, key management, and firmware resiliency architectures.
- Experience with cryptographic technologies including AES, RSA, ECC, ECDSA, SHA and modern security frameworks.
- Experience with Zephyr RTOS, FreeRTOS, Chromium EC firmware, and embedded software architecture.
- Experience with communication protocols such as I2C, I3C, SPI, eSPI, UART, USB, and related embedded interfaces.
- Experience with embedded debugging tools, oscilloscopes, protocol analyzers, and system-level troubleshooting.
- Experience in software deployment, verification, validation, and customer product enablement.
- Strong problem-solving, technical leadership, mentoring, communication, and customer-facing skills.
- Proven ability to lead technical initiatives across geographically distributed teams and influence product strategy through innovation and architectural leadership.
Preferred Qualifications:- Understanding of DICE, CDI, SPDM, eROT, secure provisioning, firmware update, and recovery architectures.
- Experience with Embedded AI, TinyML, TensorFlow Lite Micro, CMSIS-NN, or AI inference deployment on resource-constrained systems.
- Knowledge of AI model optimization, secure AI deployment, and edge intelligence frameworks.
- Familiarity with cybersecurity standards, secure development practices, and emerging industry compliance requirements.
