NFPA is looking to add a PPE Specialist to the Standards Development team!

Job Responsibilities:

As a PPE Specialist, you will contribute to NFPA's mission, vision, and strategic initiatives on all matters related to personal protective equipment (PPE) for emergency services and industrial workers. This role is NFPA's go-to source of information and knowledge on PPE, including its manufacture, certification, and use, and helps to guide the development of NFPA standards, products, and initiatives in alignment with stakeholders' needs.

The PPE Specialist acts independently to manage the standards development process for assigned projects on PPE and other emergency response topics. This includes making recommendations regarding technical and correlating committee membership, document revision schedules, and related technical issues; contributing to annual budget planning; ensuring high-quality execution of our standards development process; supporting the Standards Administration and Publishing and Production teams; promoting stakeholder participation in the process; and working with other standards development organizations to coordinate related standards activities.
• Support the application of NFPA standards by providing technical advisory service on assigned subject matters for external customers.
• Serve as a technical expert on PPE and other assigned subject matters. Participate in special projects, such as content creation/curation, product development, research, and process improvement, on an as-needed basis to support Technical Services.
• Provide support and mentorship to junior staff.

Requirements

Requirements:
• Bachelor's degree in engineering or related technical field with demonstrated knowledge of technical principles and terminology and an ability to interpret and apply technical information
• 10+ years of related experience in manufacturing or laboratory testing of personal protective equipment
• Understanding of test method design and evaluation, including intra-laboratory repeatability studies, inter-laboratory reproducibility studies, and relevance studies
• Understanding of the practical application of codes and standards to PPE design, manufacturing, and performance
• Understanding of the PPE product development and testing cycles
• Understanding of emergency services, particularly the fire service, and their overall safety needs
• Strong written communication skills with experience in technical and business writing
• Strong verbal communication skills with experience in public speaking
• Strong meeting facilitation and typing skills
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to forge relationships with a large cross-section of constituents and to effectively navigate and resolve complex situations with diplomacy
• Solid working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook)
• Detail orientated with strong project management, planning, and organization skills
