Full Job Description
Role description:

Arcadis seeks a Principal Program Manager to join our Energy Transition team. This position will include leading client development as well as managing the delivery of multi-discipline consulting and engineering services. In this role, you will be a key member of Arcadis' national practice and will lead and direct the planning, development and delivery of energy projects throughout North America. The ideal candidate will be a highly experienced professional with an extensive background in managing front end planning, engineering, procurement, and construction of large power, energy, and/or industrial manufacturing projects.

Role accountabilities:

As a Principal Program Manager, you will work with company leadership to assess, develop, and implement growth strategies across the US Energy market. You will be responsible for maintaining existing client relationships and identifying new clients, coordinating with these clients on opportunities, and leading pursuits and the development of proposals. This will require frequent networking with clients, both virtually and in person, to understand their needs and develop solutions. You will track market trends in the Energy market around policy, regulatory, and technology changes, to support and update business strategy and implementation. You will be expected to participate in market-facing events to increase Arcadis' presence and profile.

During project delivery you will be the client point of contact and responsible for overall technical, commercial, and financial performance of projects, including project management responsibilities for scope, schedule, cost, quality, risk, change, and contracts. You will ensure adherence to Arcadis' and clients' policies, standards, and specifications. You will work collaboratively with, cross-functional teams, including engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning, to ensure project KPIs are met. You will be responsible for the management of project cashflow and ensuring the invoice preparation, issue and receipt; developing/managing the project execution plan; and developing, implementing, and controlling the risk management plan. You will lead the entire lifecycle of consulting and engineering projects, from initial concept through to completion and close-out.

The client development and growth strategy aspect represent 50% of this role. The program and project delivery aspect represents the remaining 50%. Both internal and external travel will be required, estimated at 20-30%.
  • Health & Safety Stewardship, and compliance with Health, Safety and Environmental standards.
  • Management of relationships with key stakeholders, including clients, contractors, and regulatory authorities.
  • QA/QC of all aspects of the project, from design to commissioning.
  • Providing leadership and mentorship to project teams, fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.
  • Preparing and presenting regular project status reports to senior management and clients.
  • Drive innovation in program management approaches and methodology.

Qualifications & Experience:
  • A minimum 12 years of experience in managing complex energy projects
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering. A Master's degree is preferred.
  • Expertise in business development and pipeline management, including sourcing of project opportunities, networking at industry events and associations, building an ecosystem of external partners and sub-consultants.
  • Extensive experience with energy systems consulting and advisory services in general, specialization could include conventional power, renewables, natural gas, hydrogen, and/or alternative energy technologies.
  • Proven capacity and knowledge of capital project planning and implementation for and on behalf of energy system owners, developers, operators, and asset managers.
  • Experience in leading multi-disciplinary consulting and engineering teams spanning across multiple regions, sectors, and disciplines.
  • Knowledge of relevant industry standards, regulations, and best practices.
  • Proven experience in managing EPCm or EPC contractors delivering on time and budget.
  • Project Management Professional certification is required. An Electrical or Mechanical Professional Engineer license is a strong preference.

Actual salaries will vary and are based on several factors, such as experience, education, budget, internal equity, project and location.
