Overview

The Principal Embedded Software Engineer supports development of ultra-high power RF transmission systems that require reliable embedded software and cybersecurity-aware development. The Principal Embedded Software Engineer designs, integrates, documents, and validates embedded software for transmitter control, monitoring, diagnostics, and communications.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze requirements, interfaces, data flows, register-level behavior, and operating conditions to determine feasible solutions
  • Develop, integrate, and maintain embedded software for RF transmitter control, monitoring, diagnostics, and communications
  • Ensure best practices for design documentation, diagrams, code comments, interface notes, and test evidence are implemented
  • Drive design reviews, project planning, validation, troubleshooting, risk identification, and new product development
  • Provide technical expertise and leadership on programs, working in collaboration with the Program Manager, to lead the development team to achieve the committed product functionality in the timeline of the agreed contract
  • Leverage agentic AI coding tools responsibly for development, debugging, test generation, refactoring, and documentation while maintaining human review, traceability, security controls, and protection of proprietary or export-controlled information
  • Champion & implement cross-team/intra-team collaboration and continuous improvement in product designs and engineering practices, with a mindset for subsystem reuse

Qualifications

  • 12+ years of embedded software engineering experience, including RF transmission, high-power RF systems, industrial control systems, or comparable mission-critical hardware
  • BS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related technical discipline; MS preferred
  • Strong C/C++ experience on Linux and Windows platforms
  • Experience with SQLite, MongoDB, LMDB, or similar embedded databases, plus scripting with Python, Bash, or similar tools
  • Experience with TCP/IP, UDP, networking, I2C, custom communication protocols, interface control documents, register-level interfaces, and hardware/software interface definitions
  • Device driver development for I2C, SPI, UART, USB, PCIe, GPIO, or similar interfaces
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex hardware/software issues using lab equipment, schematics, board-level interfaces, and lower-level communication protocols
  • Working knowledge of embedded and networked-system cybersecurity, including DISA STIG hardening guidance, secure coding, authentication, least privilege, secure configuration, update integrity, logging, and compliance-minded development
  • Experience with Git, SVN, Jira, or similar collaboration and configuration management tools.
  • Selected candidates must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance issued by the U.S. Government throughout the course of their employment

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience developing Ignition SCADA applications for industrial control, monitoring, diagnostics, alarming, and HMI workflows
  • Experience with C#, React, embedded Linux build systems such as Buildroot or OpenEmbedded, automated testing, CI/CD, DevOps, IIoT, distributed control, DSP, PLC logic, servo tuning, NTP, UI/HMI, or web-based control interfaces

Pay may range from $190,000 to $202,000 annually

The pay range above represents annual base salary only. Final compensation will be determined based on factors such as your job level, geographic location, date of hire, experience, job-related knowledge and skills, and education in conjunction with market and business considerations.

Base salary is one component of your total rewards package. You may be eligible for long-term incentives, potential discretionary bonuses, and the ability to purchase company stock at a discounted rate through the Employee Stock Purchase Program (ESPP).
