Full Job Description
The Actuarial Analytics/Forecasting Principal analyzes and forecasts financial, economic, and other data to provide accurate and timely information for strategic and operational decisions. Establishes metrics, provides data analyses, and works directly to support business intelligence. Evaluates industry, economic, financial, and market trends to forecast the organization's short, medium and long-term financial and competitive position. The Actuarial Analytics/Forecasting Principal provides strategic advice and guidance to functional team(s). Highly skilled with broad, advanced technical experience.

The Actuarial Analytics/Forecasting Principal ensures data integrity by developing and executing necessary processes and controls around the flow of data. Collaborates with stakeholders to understand business needs/issues, troubleshoots problems, conducts root cause analysis, and develops cost effective resolutions for data anomalies. Works with senior executives to develop and drive segments or enterprise-wide functional strategies. Advises one or more areas, programs or functions and provides recommendations to senior executives on matters of significance, and as an advanced subject matter expert competent to work at very high levels in multiple knowledge and functional areas across the enterprise.

Responsibilities
  • Analyze and forecast financial, economic, and operational data to support strategic and day-to-day business decisions.
  • Develop accurate, timely reporting and insights for leadership and business partners.
  • Establish performance metrics and key indicators to support business intelligence and decision-making.
  • Evaluate industry, economic, financial, and market trends to assess Humana's short-, medium-, and long-term financial and competitive position.
  • Provide strategic actuarial and analytic guidance to functional teams and senior leadership.
  • Support Medicare Individual analytic work across the team.
  • Bridge analytics across teams to improve consistency, coordination, and insight generation.
  • Ensure data integrity by designing, implementing, and maintaining processes and controls data flow.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to understand business needs, issues, and opportunities.
  • Investigate and troubleshoot data and analytic issues.
  • Conduct root cause analysis on data anomalies and develop cost-effective resolutions.
  • Translate complex data findings into actionable recommendations for business leaders.
  • Work with senior executives to help develop and drive segments or enterprise-wide functional strategies.
  • Advise one or more business areas, programs, or functions on significant actuarial and analytic matters.
  • Serve as an advanced subject matter expert across multiple knowledge and functional areas within the enterprise.
  • Apply broad, advanced technical expertise to complex forecasting and analytic initiatives.
  • Support cross-functional decision-making through high-level modeling, analysis, and interpretation of results.
  • Monitoring claims emergence and identifying changes in utilization, unit cost, severity, and mix
  • Distinguishing signal from normal claims volatility
  • Breaking results down by geography, product, provider, service category, member cohort, and other meaningful dimensions
  • Comparing actual experience with forecasts, pricing assumptions, and prior periods

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required, Master's or Doctorate's degree preferred
  • 7+ years of technical experience
  • 2 - 5 years of project leadership
  • FSA or ASA and other relevant professional designations, to include relevant advanced degree + recent and relevant work experience.
  • MAAA
  • Strong technical and non-technical communication skills, knowing your audience
  • Experience in more than two functions (e.g., modeling, pricing, rate filing, reporting & analysis, reserving or trending)
  • Must be passionate about contributing to an organization focused on continuously improving consumer experiences


Reporting Structure: The Principal role will report to VP Actuarial Analytics & Forecasting

Work Style: Remote, with occasional travel to Humana's offices for training or meetings may be required.

Work Hours: Typical business hours are Monday-Friday 8am-5pm

Pay Range
The compensation range below reflects a good faith estimate of starting base pay for full time (40 hours per week) employment at the time of posting. The pay range may be higher or lower based on geographic location and individual pay will vary based on demonstrated job related skills, knowledge, experience, education, certifications, etc.

$156,600 - $215,400 per year

This job is eligible for a bonus incentive plan. This incentive opportunity is based upon company and/or individual performance.
