What you'll be doing...We are seeking a highly technical Principal Data Engineer to design and develop scalable data, analytics, and AI solutions that improve visibility into Verizon's transport network. This role combines software engineering, data engineering, machine learning, and cloud analytics to transform complex network telemetry into actionable insights for operations teams.
The ideal candidate is comfortable working across the full analytics lifecycle from ingesting large-scale network data to building dashboards, predictive models, APIs, and GenAI-powered applications.
This position can be located in any valid Verizon location.
What we're looking for...- Design and maintain scalable data pipelines supporting network performance analytics.
- Build automated solutions that transform raw network telemetry into actionable insights.
- Develop and optimize SQL queries and data models across enterprise databases.
- Create interactive dashboards and visualizations for operational and executive stakeholders.
- Design and deploy AI/ML solutions for anomaly detection, prediction, and decision support.
- Develop GenAI applications including Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG), natural language interfaces, and AI-assisted analytics.
- Build REST APIs and backend services that expose analytics capabilities to internal applications.
- Collaborate with Network Engineering, Operations, and Architecture teams to identify automation opportunities.
You'll need to have:- Bachelor's degree or four or more years of work experience.
- Six or more years of relevant experience required, demonstrated through one or a combination of work and/or military experience, or specialized training.
- Experience with Python development.
- Experience in building APIs using Flask, FastAPI, or similar frameworks.
- Experience with SQL skills for optimizing complex queries.
Even better if you have one or more of the following:- Experience building enterprise ETL/ELT pipelines.
- Experience with cloud data platforms (BigQuery, Snowflake, or similar).
- Experience with telecommunications or network performance data.
- Experience with Kafka, Pulsar, or streaming data platforms.
- Experience with machine learning using Scikit-learn, XGBoost, LightGBM, or similar.
- Experience developing GenAI applications using LLMs, embeddings, vector databases, and RAG architectures.
- Experience working with large-scale operational data.
- Experience with Docker and containerized applications.
- Experience building data visualization solutions using Tableau, Power BI, or Looker.
- Knowledge of cloud platforms (Google Cloud Platform preferred).
- Knowledge of graph databases or network topology analysis.

Where you'll be workingIn this hybrid role, you'll have a defined work location that includes working from home and a minimum of three days per week in the office, which will be set by your manager. Employees are responsible for maintaining compliance with hybrid work policies.

The salary will vary depending on your location and confirmed job-related skills and experience. This is an incentive based position with the potential to earn more. For part-time roles, your compensation will be adjusted to reflect your hours.
The annual salary range for the location(s) listed on this job requisition based on a full-time schedule is: $107,000.00 - $205,000.00.
