In your role as the Prime Contract Manager/ Project Lawyer, you will support the company's activities and operations in both Toronto and Moosonee, Ontario in the context of advancing the development of a new healthcare facility.
The WAHA Redevelopment Project is a 1.8B transformative initiative in Moosonee, Ontario aimed at strengthening healthcare for communities through the delivery of a state-of-the-art hospital and healthcare facility. The project consists of 4 buildings - Hospital, Long Term Care Facility, Staff & Patient Accommodations.
This role is based out of the Toronto office.
What you will do
• Work with the project team in the management of the main contract and all contracts required for execution;
• Meetings with the client, partners, designers, third parties and subcontractors related to the project and ensure compliance of the contract with all stakeholders;
• Prepare, review, analyze, comment and negotiate terms of different types of sub contracts;
• Draft and review contractual correspondence with the client and all stakeholders (partners, designers, subcontractors, third parties), ensuring clarity and consistency with the project's contractual obligations.
• Supervises and ensures contractual compliance with the change order process, including, where necessary, estimation and schedule analysis.
• Supervises and participate in contractual negotiations, as well as in the management of potential or formal disputes and claims with the client, ensuring compliance with the applicable contractual mechanisms.
Ensure that the project team has a common contractual understanding, including highlighting risks, claims and mitigation measures;
• Support to various departments (construction, engineering, procurement, environment, communication, quality, insurance and risk management, etc.) with respect to the requirements of the contracts applicable to the project;
• Liaise between technical and financial staff, business partners, legal departments and client representatives;
• Any other related tasks related to the operations and execution of the project.
This role could be for you if you have
• Hold a law degree and Licensed to Practice Law in Ontario;
• 3 years or more of experience in a similar role and more than 5 years in the construction industry;
• Relevant experience with alternative contractual mode, including Design-Build, Design-Build Finance, etc;
• Relevant experience with public client such as Infrastructure Ontario, or other public entities;
• Practical and technical knowledge of the construction industry;
• Excellent negotiation and persuasion skills;
• Excellent writing skills
• Good knowledge of work-related softwares and AI tools;
• Demonstrate judgment, initiative, leadership, autonomy, versatility and team spirit;
• Analytical and solution-oriented mind;
• Have a good ability to work under pressure and execute tasks within a compressed schedule;
