Position Summary

Reporting to the Associate Dean of Clinical & Experiential Programs/Associate Professor, this position will support the Criminal Defense Clinic by supervising students who are representing clinic clients and assisting the faculty member in managing the clinic caseload.

This position will supervise students in all clinic-related activities, including court appearances, jail visits, investigations, motion practice, client counseling, and other facets of litigation. They will share responsibility for teaching seminar sessions with faculty colleagues and will fulfill the clinic's administrative and case-handling responsibilities.

Essential Functions

Supervises students in the Criminal Defense Clinic and collaborates with other supervisors to manage the clinic caseload and represent its clients.

Attends regularly scheduled team meetings and supervises and conducts all required lawyering activities, including court appearances, jail visits, fact investigations, motion practice, client counseling, and other facets of litigation

Shares responsibility, under supervision, for enhancing and teaching seminar sessions with full-time faculty colleagues

Fulfills administrative and case handling responsibilities of the clinic.

Participates in a clinical pedagogy seminar and other activities designed to support an interest in clinical teaching and legal education.

Required Qualifications: Education and Experience

JD

Minimum of 5 years of post-J.D. legal experience.

Admission to the New York State Bar.

Required Qualifications: Knowledge and Skills

Outstanding analytical, legal research, legal writing, communications, and interpersonal skills.

Familiarity with and commitment to the principles of clinical legal education.

Proficient in computer skills, including Google and Microsoft Office suites, and website management and maintenance.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with criminal defense litigation and related civil litigation at the trial and appellate levels

Minimum Starting Salary
$110,000

Maximum Starting Salary
$120,000

Salary is commensurate with qualifications, experience, and skills.
