Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain chillers, cooling towers, steam and hot water boilers and related equipment
  • Respond promptly to alarms, troubleshoot, and isolate equipment issues
  • Clean and maintain cooling tower, chiller tubes, and fire chamber
  • Perform maintenance on air compressors, actuators, and valves as needed
  • Act as first responder to fire alarms and safety emergencies
  • Handle elevator malfunctions and inform supervisory staff of concerns
  • Conduct daily inspections and maintain log books for plant equipment and facilities
  • Test and calibrate environmental control devices for operational efficiency

Full Job Description
You as Power Engineer will:

  • Operate, monitor, and perform maintenance on all chillers, cooling towers, steam boilers, hot water boilers and their auxiliary and ancillary equipment, promptly responds to their alarms, troubleshoots, and fixes or isolates
  • Work independently and have sound judgement during stressful times
  • Clean and maintain cooling tower, chiller tubes and fire chamber of hot water and steam boilers
  • Perform maintenance on air compressors, air dryer, actuators, regulator, valves and airlines as required
  • First responder to fire alarm and other emergency codes, fire alarm panel and other related equipment upon the request of the Fire Marshall
  • Respond to elevator troubles, initiate elevator service for breakdowns and entrapments and inform Supervisor any emergency service
  • Respond to general maintenance and trouble calls as requested and troubleshoot, repair, or control the problem, consult Supervisor for after hour service calls
  • Inspect plant equipment and facility mechanical rooms daily and fill out the necessary log sheets
  • Test, calibrate, measure, and adjust control devices and space environmental parameters such as temperature, humidity and air flow throughout the facility including patient isolation rooms
  • Close PM and routine work orders on the PDA after completing work assignments
  • Maintain Log books and write reports as required and requested
  • Perform other duties consistent with the job classification, as required and as assigned by the Supervisor

  • Must be Certified as a BC Power Engineer Class 4
  • 3 to 5 years field experience would be considered a strong asset, preferably in healthcare
  • Must comply with a rotational shift work schedule - this site is a 24HR maintained facility
  • Excellent knowledge of HVAC, medical gas, BAS, and plumbing systems
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Must be able to assess and solve problems, and know when to request assistance to solve an issue before it escalates.
  • Good organizational skills
  • Desire to learn and upgrade technical skills
  • Comfortable using computer technology
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to respond quickly and appropriately in emergency situations
  • Ability to perform duties that vary frequently according to assignment
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, codes and specifications
  • The hourly rate for this role is $40.04
