What you'll do:
Eaton is seeking a Power Electronics Control Specialist for its Power Electronics (PE) Center of Excellence (CoE). The PE CoE accelerates Eaton's growth by developing scalable, cost-effective, and manufacturable power electronics platforms and building blocks. These platforms and blocks, along with standardized design methodologies, can be adopted by multiple businesses (e.g., UPS, LV/MV Drives, Energy Storage), providing a foundation for rapid innovation. Relocation and sponsorship offered.
The Power Electronics Control Specialist will be responsible for developing, implementing, and validating control systems for a wide range of power conversion and protection products. Additionally, they will drive the adoption of model-based techniques during the New Product Introduction (NPI) process, including Model in the Loop (MIL) and Hardware in the Loop (HIL) methodologies for design and validation of new products within Eaton's portfolio. Up to 15% travel domestically and internationally.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Develops control and protection algorithms and firmware for electric motors and power converters
• Performs modeling and simulation for the electric motors and power converters control development
• Implements, tests, and troubleshoots control firmware
• Establish system & sub-system level control requirements from functional specifications and application needs
• Plans and performs control algorithms and firmware development and validation on HIL and lab
• Creates technical reports and presentations
• Initiates and leads design reviews and technical discussions including brainstorming
• Stays current with the latest technologies trends and applies knowledge to the development of control firmware for electric motors and power converters
Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited institution.
• Minimum of 8 years of engineering experience in developing and implementing control algorithms for electric motors and power converters, including academic or research experience.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience with C/C++ programming
• Minimum of 5 years of experience with DSP, FPGA, microcontrollers, and standard peripheral components
Preferred Qualifications:
• MS in Electrical or Computer Engineering, or equivalent.
• Strong background in digital control and electric motor/power converter techniques.
• Experience in developing and implementing control for electric motors and power converters using auto-code generation tools (e.g., Simulink Coder).
• Experience with PSCAD modeling.
• Knowledge of real-time operating systems and digital signal processing.
• Familiarity with power electronics hardware.
• Working knowledge of HIL hardware and software.
• Demonstrated knowledge of engineering processes (e.g., DFMEA, 8D).
