Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Postdoctoral Associate for the department of Medicine at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.

Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, the Postdoctoral Associate will work in Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School (RWJMS) Division of Endocrinology, Metabolism & Nutrition within the Department of Medicine. The position focuses on elucidating the neuroendocrine mechanisms of insulin resistance, with particular emphasis on the role of the sympathetic nervous system (SNS) in metabolic homeostasis. The work of the lab challenges the conventional paradigm by investigating how the sympathetic nervous system (SNS) and neuroendocrine signaling govern systemic metabolism, integrating insights from rodent physiology, molecular biology, and systems metabolism. The incumbent will operate at the forefront of translational metabolic research, combining mechanistic rodent studies with state-of-the-art laboratory approaches, including stable isotope tracing and metabolomics. There is also the possibility to participate on innovative clinical studies to study human physiology. The Postdoctoral Associate will play a central and visible role in driving this research forward-leading animal and possibly clinical study implementation, generating and analyzing high-impact datasets, and contributing to publications and grant applications. The position also includes mentorship and providing direction to trainees and research staff, and active participation in the academic mission of the division. The position offers a highly collaborative, intellectually dynamic environment with strong mentorship and a clear path toward scientific independence, including opportunities to develop first-author publications and pursue independent funding to embark on an academic career in the area of neurometabolism This position will tackle fundamental questions in metabolism, work at the interface of clinical and basic science, and contribute to a research program with strong potential to reshape our understanding of insulin resistance and metabolic disease.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:

• Performs rodent phenotyping procedures, including glucose tolerance tests, indirect calorimetry, and clamp studies.
• Coordinates and conducts study visits, including participant management, protocol implementation, and adherence to regulatory and ethical standards.
• Designs and performs advanced laboratory experiments, including stable isotope tracer studies, biochemical assays, and metabolomic analyses.
• Generates, analyzes, and interprets high-dimensional metabolic and physiological datasets, contributing to mechanistic insights into insulin resistance.
• Drives scientific discovery through active involvement in data interpretation, hypothesis generation, and experimental design.
• Prepares and contributes to high-impact scientific manuscripts, conference presentations, and NIH grant applications.
• Presents research findings at national and international conferences and participate in invited seminars.

Minimum Education and Experience

• PhD, MD, or Doctoral equivalent in a relevant science required.
• Candidates in ABD status (all but degree) will also be considered.
