What You’ll Be Doing
The Project Manager, Equity Products & Portfolio Oversight Reporting is a hybrid business-management and data-stewardship role within CIBC Private Wealth’s Investments organization. Reporting directly to the Managing Director of Portfolio Oversight, this individual will lead cross-functional initiatives—particularly those affecting proprietary equity products, investment processes, and supporting technology—while owning the portfolio oversight reporting framework. The role connects investment, relationship management, fiduciary, operations, technology, risk, legal, and compliance partners to translate business needs into well-governed projects, accurate management information, and sustainable operating processes.
At CIBC we enable the work environment most optimal for you to thrive in your role. You'll have the flexibility to manage your work activities within a hybrid work arrangement where you'll spend 3 days per week on-site, while other days will be remote.
Cross-Functional Project Management
- Lead projects from intake and definition through implementation, stabilization, and closeout, with particular emphasis on equity products, portfolio implementation, oversight processes, and investment-support capabilities.
- Develop clear project charters, scope statements, workplans, milestones, decision logs, risk and issue registers, status reporting, and implementation-readiness criteria.
- Coordinate subject-matter experts and delivery partners across Investments, Relationship Management, Fiduciary, Operations, Technology, Data, Risk, Legal, and Compliance.
- Facilitate working sessions, governance forums, and executive updates; surface trade-offs, secure decisions, and drive timely resolution of dependencies and blockers.
- Translate investment and operating requirements into actionable process, data, reporting, control, and technology specifications.
- Support product launches, strategy changes, platform enhancements, control improvements, and remediation efforts affecting the equity product lifecycle.
- Ensure initiatives follow applicable project governance, testing, documentation, change-management, and post-implementation review standards.
Portfolio Oversight Reporting & Data Stewardship
- Own the end-to-end portfolio oversight reporting function, including reporting calendars, data sourcing, controls, production, distribution, retention, and continuous improvement.
- Produce and enhance recurring management and governance reporting covering investment reviews, open and aged exceptions, portfolio-construction risks, pre-trade controls, operating trends, and other key oversight indicators.
- Maintain authoritative definitions, business rules, data lineage, calculation logic, thresholds, ownership, and documentation for portfolio oversight metrics.
- Establish data-quality controls and reconciliations; investigate anomalies, coordinate remediation, and clearly communicate data limitations or changes in methodology.
- Design scalable reporting templates and dashboards that provide useful cuts by legal entity, region, office, strategy, exception type, aging, or other relevant dimensions.
- Partner with source-system owners and technology teams to automate manual reporting, improve data availability, and strengthen repeatability and auditability.
- Respond to ad hoc senior-management, board, risk, compliance, audit, and regulatory requests with accurate, timely, and well-supported analysis.
- Convert reporting insights into prioritized actions, escalation themes, and recommendations for process or control improvement.
Governance, Controls & Continuous Improvement
- Embed clear ownership, approvals, evidence, version control, and recordkeeping into project and reporting processes.
- Identify process gaps, operational risks, and opportunities to simplify or standardize execution across teams.
- Develop procedures, job aids, and training materials that support consistent adoption.
- Build trusted relationships with senior stakeholders and serve as a central point of coordination for equity-related initiatives and portfolio oversight information.
How You’ll Succeed
- Deliver with discipline: Projects have clear scope, accountable owners, transparent status, controlled risks, and measurable outcomes.
- Create trusted information: Reports are accurate, timely, consistent, traceable, and decision-useful.
- Connect the organization: Stakeholders understand priorities, decisions, dependencies, and next steps.
- Think like an owner: You anticipate issues, challenge inefficient practices, and create sustainable solutions rather than one-time fixes.
- Balance detail and perspective: You can reconcile data at a granular level while communicating the broader business and risk implications to senior leaders.
Who You Are
- Educational background: Bachelor’s degree in finance, business, economics, data analytics, information systems, or a related field; equivalent relevant experience considered.
- Experience: Typically 5–8 years of experience in project or program management, investment operations, wealth or asset management, business management, data governance, reporting, or a related discipline.
- Owner mindset: Demonstrated success leading cross-functional initiatives in a regulated, control-oriented environment.
- Analytical: Strong understanding of data stewardship, reporting controls, metric governance, reconciliation, and management information.
- Technical skills: Advanced Excel and PowerPoint capability; experience with business-intelligence, workflow, data-query, or automation tools is strongly preferred. Working knowledge of investment products and portfolio management processes; familiarity with equity separately managed accounts, investment reviews, portfolio restrictions, trading workflows, or compliance controls is preferred.
- Relationship builder: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present complex information clearly to executives and governance bodies.
- Detail oriented: Highly organized, analytical, and detail-oriented, with sound judgment and the ability to manage competing priorities.
- Values matter to you: You bring your real self to work and you live our values – trust, teamwork, and accountability.
Preferred Credentials
- Agile, or comparable project-management training.
- Experience with SQL, Power BI, Tableau, Alteryx, Python, or similar reporting and analytics tools.
- Experience supporting audit, regulatory examination, issue remediation, or senior governance committees.
