Full Job Description
Job Summary

The PLM and Change Configuration Manager is responsible for owning and maintaining accurate product configuration across the full product lifecycle within the PLM and ERP systems. This role ensures that suppliers, contract manufacturers, and internal teams always have access to the most current product design, manufacturing, and documentation data needed to quote, build, and deliver products that adhere to specifications.

Beyond day-to-day maintenance, this role is expected to identify gaps in existing configuration management processes and lead efforts to improve them. The PLM and Change Configuration Manager will propose, document, and drive adoption of better practices across the organization, working closely with Engineering, Operations, Supply Chain, Quality, and Finance. This is a highly cross-functional position that participates in key data governance.

A high level of attention to detail, strong organizational discipline, and the ability to structure data in a consistent and findable way are all essential. So is the confidence to hold the organization accountable to process.

Core Responsibilities
  • Own and maintain product configuration in the PLM system, including BOMs, Engineering Change Orders, documentation, firmware, packaging, and all other items that define the product.
  • Manage item and assembly lifecycle states from proof of concept through end of life in both PLM (Arena) and ERP (NetSuite) systems.
  • Ensure BOM accuracy and consistency across PLM and ERP, proactively identifying and resolving discrepancies before they impact supply chain or manufacturing.
  • Define and track configuration management KPIs such as BOM accuracy rate, change cycle time, and release compliance - and report these to leadership on a regular cadence.
  • Lead the Change Control Board (CCB). As part of the CCB process facilitate structured review of all Engineering Change Orders for completeness, risk and cross-functional impact.
  • Work with the CCB team to analyze ECOs for downstream effects on product, process, material, customer commitments, regulatory status, and cost - ensuring disposition and effectivity instructions are clear and complete.
  • Drive change closure on time and coordinate implementation across Engineering, Operations, Supply Chain, and Quality.
  • Maintain and improve Change Control policies, procedures, and training materials to ensure consistent organizational adherence.
  • Actively participate in the Material Review Board, supporting the disposition of nonconforming material in coordination with Quality, Supply Chain, and Engineering.
  • Ensure MRB dispositions are reflected accurately in the PLM and ERP systems with appropriate documentation.
  • Ensure accurate and current product design data is available to the supply base, contract manufacturers, and electronics manufacturing suppliers via PLM and ERP.
  • Partner regularly with Engineering, Operations, Supply Chain, Quality, and Finance to align on data accuracy, process adherence, and upcoming changes.
  • Provide guidance and training on PLM usage and change management best practices to other team members across functions.
  • Proactively identify inefficiencies, gaps, and risks in configuration management, document control, and release management processes.
  • Propose, build consensus for, and lead implementation of process improvements - including updates to SOPs, workflow configurations in Arena, and cross-functional working practices.
  • Establish and maintain scalable standards for item master structure, BOM hierarchy, naming conventions, and revision control in a way that supports the company's growth.
  • Own or co-own Document Control policies and ensure consistent application across the organization.
  • Contribute to certification readiness and audit performance (e.g., ISO, regulatory, customer audits) by ensuring configuration records are accurate, complete, and traceable.
  • Support quality and compliance initiatives that depend on accurate configuration data and revision history.

Experience & Qualifications

Required
  • 5+ years of experience managing Product Lifecycle Management, Engineering Changes, Bills of Material, or a similar configuration management function in a manufacturing environment.
  • Arena PLM experience strongly preferred; candidates with deep expertise in Arena's BOM, change, and supplier portal workflows are prioritized.
  • Demonstrated experience working within a high-complexity or regulated discrete manufacturing environment (e.g., consumer electronics, industrial equipment, medical devices, or similar).
  • Hands-on experience working with Contract Manufacturers (CMs) and Electronics Manufacturing Suppliers (EMS) as a direct interface for product data communication.
  • Experience with a Tier 1 ERP system (NetSuite strongly preferred) including item master management and BOM synchronization between PLM and ERP.
  • Proven ability to chair or actively participate in Change Control Board and Material Review Board processes.
  • Track record of owning and improving configuration or document control processes - not just executing them.
  • Strong cross-functional communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence without direct authority.

Preferred
  • Familiarity with PLM-ERP integration workflows and the operational implications of change propagation across systems.
  • Experience in a company that has scaled through growth stages, with exposure to building or maturing configuration management infrastructure.
  • Exposure to quality management systems (QMS) and regulatory or certification audit support.

Key Competencies
  • Process Ownership - takes initiative to identify problems, not just report them; builds and drives solutions.
  • Attention to Detail - data accuracy is non-negotiable; errors are caught before they propagate.
  • Cross-Functional Influence - able to align diverse stakeholders around process and data standards.
  • Organizational Discipline - maintains consistent structure and naming across a complex product portfolio.
  • Communication - clearly conveys technical configuration details to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Accountability - comfortable holding others (and themselves) to process commitments in a constructive way.
