About the Role

The Technical Director (Platform Technical Lead) is the technical architect and engineering anchor of the EA SPORTS Network leadership triad. Reporting into the Sr. Director of the EA SPORTS Network, this leader is responsible for defining, architecting, and scaling the platform technology that powers shared capabilities across the EA SPORTS Network.

This is a critical role within the Strategic Growth organization. The ideal candidate will establish the architecture, engineering standards, API strategies, and technical governance required to support a highly secure, scalable, and resilient consumer ecosystem. Importantly, this role needs to be an influential technologist capable of driving enterprise-wide technology alignment, mentoring engineering talent, and representing EA SPORTS Network in high-level engineering and technology forums.
Your Responsibilities
Platform Architecture
  • Architect the Ecosystem: Define and execute the long-term technical architecture supporting connected consumer experiences across the EA SPORTS Network.
  • Standardize & Scale: Establish high-performance technical standards, APIs, integration patterns, and modern engineering principles that ensure reusable technology scales seamlessly across the entire sports portfolio.
  • Core Capabilities Engine: Oversee the backend architectural integrity and integration of central technology services, including global identity platforms, player profiles, real-time personalization, commerce, and advertising.
Technical Roadmap
  • Technical Roadmap: Translate product requirements into a multi-year technical roadmap that delivers measurable business impact and optimizes player engagement.
  • Enterprise Integration: Partner deeply with EA's Central Enterprise Technology and Security teams to leverage existing technology investments and ensure alignment.
  • Lead Technical Governance: Establish robust architecture review processes, define API and SDK integration standards, and continually improve the developer experience (DevEx) for studio game teams adopting the Network.
Organizational Leadership
  • The Leadership Triad: Collaborate as an equal partner with the Sr. Dir of Product Management and Creative Director to ensure technical feasibility meets product viability and experience design excellence.
  • Influence without Authority: Build alignment and drive technical consensus across disparate franchise studios, Central Technology teams, and external partners.
Cross-Functional Leadership
  • Partner closely with Product Management, Experience Design, Operations, Studios, and Enterprise Technology.
  • Build technical alignment across multiple organizations.
  • Influence technical direction through collaboration rather than direct ownership.
Your Qualifications
  • Experience: 10+ years of experience in platform architecture, software engineering, or technical strategy for massive-scale consumer platforms.
  • Domain Expertise: Deep hands-on experience with identity platforms, distributed microservices systems, cloud architecture (AWS/Azure), and enterprise integrations.

  • Influence: Exceptional ability to build technical alignment and influence senior engineering leaders across multiple organizations without direct reporting lines.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
