PLANT TECHNICAL ENGINEERING MANAGER
AUBURN HILLS, MI


As a member of the Auburn Hills team, the Plant Technical Engineering Manager will be responsible for supervising and coordinating assigned functions and programs within the Engineering and Maintenance Departments to include planning, process and equipment development. Incumbents in this classification are responsible for setting goals, establishing priorities, managing resources, developing concepts and approaches, and reviewing projects progress and results. Utilizing leading technology, core standards, best practices to provide the best quality and efficiency in the industry.

The Role:

Your work will include, but not be limited to:
  • Direct supervision of industrial engineers, controls engineers & maintenance
  • Define assembly process according to customer and internal requirements
  • Estimate cost of product and process changes
  • Develop, evaluate and improve manufacturing methods including automation, utilizing knowledge of product design, processes, tooling and production equipment capabilities, assembly methods, and quality control standards
  • Analyze and plan manning and space requirements, workflow and designs layout of equipment and workspace for maximum efficiency
  • Define equipment, lead procurement, project management, installation and testing activities
  • Liaison to corporate engineering resources
  • Maintain project timelines aligned with product launch milestones
  • Maintain open issues list and drive completion
  • Ensure all equipment and processes appropriately consider safety ergonomics
  • Lead cross functional teams supporting above activities
  • Oversee preventative maintenance, repair and spare parts inventory for production equipment, building and grounds
  • Oversee the development, review and execution of planned downtime activities and other projects
  • Coordinate & manage work of external project managers, contractors, utility companies and other agencies
  • Develop and maintain department procedures
  • Ensure that role-driven operational key performance indicator (KPI) targets are met, including spending within budget, labor (hours per car set), on-time preventative maintenance, mean-time-between-failure (MTBF) and mean-time-to-repair (MTTR)
  • All other duties as assigned


Your Qualifications:
  • >10 years of combined experience in Industrial Engineering & Management
  • Project management
  • Labor analysis / work measurement
  • Line balancing
  • Creation of technical purchasing specifications for custom assembly equipment
  • Plant layout using AutoCad Lt / 2D
  • Experience with industrial controls & automation
  • Experience with assembly equipment; build pallets, conveyors, end of line testers etc
  • Maintain budget & spending forecast
  • Hands-on experience implementing change on production floor
  • Strong communication & interpersonal skills
  • High attention to detail
  • Sense of urgency
