Job Overview

The Planning Supervisor is responsible for leading all production planning activities within an SAP-driven manufacturing environment. This role owns the integrity, optimization, and execution of planning processes across SAP (PP/MM) systems, ensuring seamless alignment between demand, supply, capacity, and inventory. The Planning Supervisor drives S&OP integration, data accuracy, and system governance while leading a high-performing team and enabling operational and strategic business objectives.

A Day In The Life

Key Responsibilities:
  • SAP Planning Leadership & Governance
    • Own and govern all planning-related activities within SAP (PP/MM modules), ensuring standardization and best-practice utilization.
    • Maintain and optimize key SAP planning parameters including:
    • Drive system discipline and compliance across planning processes (MPS/MRP runs, exception management).
    • Partner with IT and SAP functional teams to implement system enhancements, upgrades, and continuous improvements.
    • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of planners operating within SAP.
    • Build deep SAP capability across the team, including transaction proficiency and analytical skills.
    • Establish standard work, training programs, and documentation for SAP planning processes.
    • Promote a culture of accountability, data accuracy, and continuous improvement.
  • Integrated Production Planning (SAP-Driven) and S&OP / IBP Integration
    • Lead execution of MPS (Master Production Scheduling) and MRP (Material Requirements Planning) within SAP.
    • Translate demand signals into actionable production and procurement plans through SAP.
    • Oversee and manage:
    • Optimize planning to balance service, cost, and inventory targets.
    • Ensure strong alignment between SAP planning outputs and S&OP / IBP processes.
    • Collaborate with demand planning to improve forecast consumption and planning accuracy within SAP.
    • Support deployment or enhancement of SAP IBP or APO (if applicable) for advanced planning capabilities.
    • Provide scenario modeling and data-driven insights to leadership.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration
    • Work closely with procurement to ensure timely availability of raw materials.
    • Coordinate with manufacturing to optimize resource utilization and minimize downtime.
    • Communicate with customer service and sales teams to manage order fulfillment and lead times.
    • Serve as the key SAP planning interface with:
    • Provide visibility into constraints, system exceptions, and supply risks.
    • Influence enterprise decisions using SAP-driven insights.
  • Systems & Reporting
    • Utilize ERP/MRP systems to manage planning data and generate reports.
    • Analyze production metrics and KPIs to identify trends and areas for improvement.
    • Ensure data accuracy and integrity within planning systems.
    • Ensure high-quality master data in SAP, including:
    • Establish KPIs derived from SAP data:
    • Leverage SAP reporting tools (e.g., SAP Analytics, embedded reports) for actionable insights.
  • Process and Continuous Improvement & Optimization
    • Identify and implement process enhancements to improve planning efficiency and accuracy.
    • Lead initiatives to enhance SAP planning efficiency and reduce manual workarounds.
    • Identify and eliminate root causes of MRP instability (e.g., master data errors, poor parameters).
    • Drive Lean and Six Sigma initiatives leveraging SAP data visibility.
    • Standardize planning processes across value streams where applicable.
  • Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
    • SAP MRP stability and exception management effectiveness
    • On-Time In-Full (OTIF) delivery
    • Forecast accuracy (via SAP consumption)
    • Inventory turns and days of supply
    • Master data accuracy rate
    • Schedule adherence and capacity utilization
