Responsibilities

Overview

Orrick currently has an excellent opportunity for a Pitch Team Manager (Finance Sector) based in any of our U.S. offices. 

 

The Opportunity: The Pitch Team Manager, a position in the Business Development department, will provide leadership, workflow management and team training coordination. Working closely with the Director of Pitches, the role will provide strong supervisory support in the daily operations of the team, review of work product for quality and completeness, input on the long-term strategic planning for the function and development of the team – including best practice guidelines for the pitching process and the creation and coordination of an updated and effective training curriculum. The role also includes opportunity response coverage and leadership on high priority opportunities. The primary sector of focus for this role will be Finance, with additional opportunities to collaborate on projects at the intersection of our sectors as well.

Responsibilities
  • Support the team’s director in the execution of a long-term strategic plan for the function, role, and development of the Pitch Team
  • Contribute to strategic and creative best practice guidelines for the pitching process including intelligence gathering, audience analysis, client/project need analysis, perception analysis and key message development
  • Provide leadership to the Pitch Team, modeling and coaching on best practices and supervising team members as directed by team’s director
  • Provide exemplary coverage on opportunity requests, including strategic and high priority opportunities
  • Oversee special projects owned by team, ensuring assigned projects continue to meet all quality standards and that associated processes are reviewed on a quarterly basis
  • Identify and lead implementation of best practices for leveraging all firm systems and departments in the pitch and proposal process, especially content-based information (i.e., Conflicts, Research, Finance, HR, Diversity, etc.)
  • Assist on training curriculum for new members of Business Development department as well as new additions to Pitch Team
  • Supervise and lead in the creation and development of content used for pitches and proposals
  • Maintain the archive of pitch and proposal materials, including completed pieces and responses as well as core materials related to the firm's legal practices and the specific industries and sectors we serve
  • Write, edit and maintain effective, compelling, and consistent materials for use in the firm's marketing and business development initiatives.
  • Accurately measure successes in pitch & proposal activities, making strategic recommendations for improvements and modifications
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, or some other communications-related discipline preferred or equivalent work experience.
  • Three to five years of pitch and proposal experience, and at least three years' experience in a law firm or other professional services environment preferred.
  • Exemplary leadership, organization, and project management skills
  • Strong initiative and ability to mentor/coach junior team members
  • Superior writing skills, especially in the setting of pitch and proposal or marketing collateral context
  • Ability to coordinate multiple complex projects while remaining client-service focused, detail oriented and demonstrating superior judgment and decision-making skills
  • Demonstrated exemplary professional communication skills across verbal and written mediums
  • Excellent computer/Internet skills, with exceptional proficiency in Microsoft Word, Powerpoint, and Excel
  • Ability to become proficient in the use of the following marketing systems and tools: InTapp OnePlace, Orrick.ai, Foundation, Orrick's Biography Tool, ServiceNow Project Management Platform; Orrick's Portal; and other relevant firm systems.
  • Experience with document management systems (e.g., Net Docs) a plus.

 

Compensation and Benefits

 

The expected salary range for this position is:

  • New York City, Silicon Valley, and San Francisco $135,000 - $160,000
  • Washington DC, Los Angeles, Orange County, Santa Monica, Sacramento, Boston, and Seattle $125,000 - $155,000
  • All Other US Locations $115,000 - $150,000

This compensation and benefits information is based on the Orrick’s estimate as of the date of publication and may be modified in the future. The level of pay within the range will depend on a variety of job-related factors that may include, but not limited to, qualifications, relevant experience or education, particular skills or expertise, geography.  Other compensation may include an annual discretionary merit bonus, which would be determined by Firm and individual performance.
