What this job involves: The Physical Security Systems Engineer is the on-site technical owner of all physical security systems deployed at the Barber Lake Data Center from day one. This role reporting operationally to the Director of Physical Security Operations, carries full accountability for 24/7 system health, uptime, and performance of access control, video surveillance, and supporting platforms. You will execute all patching, upgrades, and change management activities while meeting every physical security service level obligation defined in the customer agreements. As the on-site technical authority, you will continuously monitor system health, manage third-party integrators and contractors, lead acceptance testing and commissioning for new devices and expansions, and partner with IT, Network, Facilities, SOC, and the guard force to ensure security systems operate as part of an integrated site operations program.

What your day-to-day will look like:
  • Serve as the on-site technical authority for all physical security systems including access control (ACS), video surveillance (VSS), intrusion detection, intercom, key management, and visitor management platforms, maintaining 24/7 uptime of the Genetec Security Center environment
  • Own end-to-end change management for security systems-patching, firmware upgrades, version updates, configuration changes, certificate renewals, and rollback planning-executed under formal MOP/SOP control
  • Continuously monitor system health, generate and tune health alarms, and proactively remediate degraded devices, offline edges, archiver issues, storage capacity warnings, and network path failures
  • Track and report against all Barber Lake lease security SLAs including system availability, incident response, audit-log integrity, video retention, and reporting cadence, surfacing and escalating any risks to compliance
  • Manage all third-party security integrators, low-voltage contractors, and OEM support resources for installs, service tickets, maintenance, RMAs, and warranty work, verifying scope, quality, and documentation before sign-off
  • Retrieve, package, and chain-of-custody video evidence and access logs for internal investigations, customer requests, legal hold, and law enforcement in line with Cipher Digital policy
  • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures, runbooks, configuration baselines, as-built drawings, device inventories, and lifecycle records for all security systems

Required Qualifications:
  • Associate degree or equivalent technical training in Information Technology, Electronics, or a related field.
  • Genetec Security Center certification (Enterprise level), or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire
  • 5+ years administering enterprise physical security systems in mission-critical environments (data center, financial, healthcare, or large campus)
  • 3+ years hands-on with Access Control Systems (ACS) and Video Surveillance Systems (VSS), with deep working knowledge of Genetec Security Center
  • Experience with biometric platforms (e.g., Morpho/IDEMIA), LPR/AutoVu, intercoms, key management (e.g., Traka), and visitor management (Envoy or equivalent)
  • Demonstrated experience operating security systems against contractual SLAs and supporting customer or regulatory audits
  • Hands-on expertise across low-voltage security technologies: IP cameras, controllers, readers, locks, REX devices, structured cabling, and edge networking
  • Strong networking fundamentals: IP/VLAN, subnetting, DNS, DHCP, 802.1X, multicast, QoS, certificate-based authentication, and basic firewall concepts
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally, use ladders and lifts to access cameras, readers, and overhead pathways, and work outside normal business hours including weekends, evenings, holidays, and on-call rotations when required

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Industry certifications: Database, Network, Pen test, Axis Certified Professional, HID Advantage, PSP (ASIS)
  • Data center, hyperscale, or colocation experience
  • Customer-focused and SLA-driven with clear written and verbal communication skills; calm under pressure with ability to prioritize and execute during incidents and competing demands


Work Shift: Standard business hours with willingness to work outside normal hours including weekends, evenings, holidays, and on-call rotations for incidents, emergencies, or customer support
Travel: Less than 10%, primarily for training or limited cross-site support
