Full Job Description
We are building a new Physical Layer software organization for Ericsson's purpose-built Radio Base Stations and are looking for a First Line Manager to create and lead a new embedded software team, working alongside existing L1 development teams. This is a critical leadership role in Ericsson's 6G journey and in securing performance leadership in mobile networks. You will lead highly skilled engineers developing high-quality embedded L1/Physical Layer software and drive AI-enabled ways of working. What you will do: • Build and lead a new L1 / Physical Layer embedded software team in Ontario • Recruit, onboard, and develop strong L1/embedded software engineers • Drive AI-driven software development practices to improve quality and productivity • Secure design, implementation, integration and verification of embedded L1 software • Collaborate with architects, Product Owners and project leaders to plan and deliver product commitments • Take ownership of a defined scope of the L1 software product and ensure performance, quality and maintainability The skills you will bring: • Previous leadership experience in an R&D organization (e.g., First Line Manager, team lead, technical coordinator, OPO or project manager) • Solid background in embedded software development (e.g., C/C++ for real-time/embedded systems) • Knowledge of Radio Access Network and Layer 1 / Physical Layer concepts • Experience working with real-time or hardware-close software • Strong communication skills and ability to lead and motivate a technical team • Interest and capability in using AI tools and methods to evolve software development ways of working Nice to have / can be learned • Detailed knowledge of Ericsson's L1 / Physical Layer software stack and internal tools • Specific AI/ML platforms and practices used in Ericsson's development environment • Deep specialization in particular L1 functions or 5G/6G features • Ericsson-specific processes, frameworks and governance What success looks like: • 3 months: Strong candidates identified and recruitment well underway, with key hires progressing • 6 months: Team staffed and producing initial deliveries with good quality • 12 months: Team takes active ownership of a defined part of the L1 software product and is recognized as a key contributor to the 6G L1 roadmap DISCLAIMER: The above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by employees in this position. The salary range for this position is • Ottawa: $136,000CAD - $178,500CAD Short-Term Variable Compensation Plan: Your pay also includes the opportunity for an annual bonus. Actual bonus payouts are based on performance of the business against the unit's objectives, individual performance, and the individual bonus target. Certain eligibility and pro-ration rules apply.
