Full Job Description
Job Summary
The Prescription Pharmacist performs dispensing pharmaceutical care including patient consultation and supervisory duties pertaining to filling of prescriptions. This position approves orders during filling process and oversees assigned subordinates. The position assures optimum service to patient, physician or other authorized individuals, within federal and state regulations.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Doctorate of Pharmacy required.
  • Licensure in the state of Georgia.
  • Previous Institutional pharmacy experience preferred.
  • Accesses, calculates and recommends medication therapy, use and dispensing to patients. This includes receiving and reviewing prescriptions for appropriate drug therapy including drug strength, directions, and/or possible drug interactions. Also, monitors patients for potential drug allergies.
  • Assists in supervision and appraisal of pharmacy personnel and other duties as assigned.
  • Prepares a drug study plan for each protocol identifying pertinent information for pharmacy staff. Train back-up pharmacists and staff pharmacists on procedures for preparing, dispensing, and accounting for drugs used in clinical trials.
  • Prepares drugs for patients enrolled into investigational trials and ensures that patients receive correct doses at appropriate times as defined by the protocol.
  • Drug Study cost accounting:
    • Prepares a budget outlining estimated costs for investigational studies.
    • Reviews drug related protocols submitted to the GROC (Grady Research Oversight Committee) on a monthly basis and examines them for a drug handling plan and cost issues.
  • Manages investigational Drug inventory:
    • Ensures drugs are stored according to protocol guidelines.
    • Maintains appropriate level of drug inventories and orders when necessary.
    • Maintains accountability log for each dose dispensed
  • Ensures that any remaining study drugs at the end of the trial (un-dispensed or patient return) is returned or disposed of according to sponsor guidelines and Grady Health System policy.
  • Compounds and dispenses medicines and preparations according to prescriptions written/ordered by physicians, dentists and other practitioners authorized by law to prescribe. Also, accurately compounds, labels, and dispenses pharmaceutical preparations which includes approving all labels printed by the computer system and affixed to containers, in accordance with state and federal laws.
  • Provides Medication Therapy Management for patients and offers counseling on drug therapy to patients.
  • Maintains all legally required records properly for the pharmacy and licensure.
  • Controls disposition of narcotics, other scheduled drugs, dangerous drugs and investigational drugs, as regulated by state and federal regulations.
  • Reviews duplications and interactions noted on computer and takes necessary steps to alleviate these issues. Helps monitor for medication reconciliation in the electronic medical record.
  • Inspects periodically/supervises pharmacy personnel who inspect pharmaceutical supplies on nursing units and reports any discrepancies with regard to stock, etc., to the Drug Safety Officer and Nursing.
  • Furnishes information concerning medications to physicians, nurses, dentists and other practitioner authorized by law to prescribe.
  • Assists in positive financial outcomes for Pharmacy Operations. These duties include inventory management, maximizing payer sources for medications and assists in maximizing
