Job DescriptionResponsible for ensuring that the department is staffed appropriately to ensure the effective delivery of nursing care/specialty needs of services are met. Maintains compliance with established quality standards. Manages unit staff productively and assists in budget development and maintenance. Assumes a leadership role in development of professional practice.
Principal Accountabilities:1. Coordinates daily staffing schedule.
2. Consults in a variety of patient care situations requiring advanced competency and knowledge.
3. Serve as a clinical resource for problem solving and assist staff with patient related issues and emergency situations.
4. Acts as liaison to other departments and multiple patient care services.
5. Serves as a role model to develop staff competence.
6. Assists in cost management, including product evaluation, prevention of waste and damage, room utilization, control of overtime, and appropriate staffing mix.
7. Facilitates unit-based QE program/projects.
8. Investigates and follows up on incident reports and patient complaints.
9. Evaluates and updates the quality and appropriate use of department and unit tools.
10. Acts as a manager in absence of the manager.
11. Assists with interviews, hiring, coaching, counseling, and corrective action, including documentation of same.
12. Assists with annual performance appraisals.
13. Assists with budget process.
14. Assists staff in implementing clinical pathways and outcomes management.
15. Assists in unit problem solving.
16. Schedules staff meetings as needed.
17. Promotes positive group dynamics as leader and member.
18. Maintains communication with patients, families, staff, physicians, and other departments.
19. Other relevant duties as assigned
QualificationsRequired:
1. Bachelor's Degree Required
2. Registered Nurse (RN) required
3. Three (3) years' experience in discipline
4. Clinical and Technical expertise in specialties of responsibility.
Preferred:
1. Charge Experience and Specialty certification are preferred.
2. Experience using EPIC
3. Basic Life Support (BLS)
4. Knowledge of clinical nursing care procedures and protocols
